Played my first proper satellite today, the $11 rebuy for the $215 PLHE event on the 7th. I finished a rather unfortunate 18th, with 14 places paying into the event. Boo hiss. Played pretty well though, things just didn't turn out right at the end and my plan of folding into the spots with 20k chips didn't work out as I lost a few chips here and there on big hands and bluffs that didnt work out. At the end the 5k chips or so I lost would've made a big difference as it was close for the last few places. At least I got my buyin, rebuy and add-on back.

Felt I played ok, my two big hands were an AQ push vs a major LAG after the first break (she had J7o, I doubled through) and an AA when I was short in the last 50; got all in against QQ and 99 and busted them both. Them's the breaks! Good practice for later satellites, I guess, and the money's hardly going to break the bank to buy in anyhow.

I qualified for my third event last night, the NLHE heads up event. I'm definately not playing that nonsense. I shoulda qualified for the $215 PLO event a second time last night but some big stack raised with like 557K and flopped a straight and I got overzealous with my two pair figuring he was just a monkey with AA. Oh well, live and learn. I'm probably gonna play the $215 limit hold em event and sell every other seat I win. I initially didn't want to play the $215 rebuy PLO event because it was too costly, but I've made quite a bit the past few weeks so I may give it a go, we'll see.

P.S. I briefly sat at a $1000 PLO table on Stars yesterday, I was far far far far from impressed. I made a real nice profit but left fairly quickly. I really think you should consider playing them, even if only sparingly.

Took another shot at a satellite for a 215 buyin tonight but didn't really get going; playing it behind a few other games, didn't catch a lot of cards and although after the add on I had about $4500, it wasn't a very big stack and one ill-advised aggro play after the first break lost the lot after I bluff-raised what I thought was a weak player who actually had TPTK with a nut flush draw; I had 7 outs and they didn't hit. Perhaps another go tomorrow! I'd like to get a seat soon, I know it's only been a couple of tries but I'm banking on the satellites to pay my way into at least one of the omaha events.

Won my first two cash satellites.

Postby semperfi » Wed Aug 17, 2005 2:59 am

Well I am back. Have been out of pocket a while, without much time to play, and practically no time to read and post. I just found out about the WCOOP a couple of days ago as I had not played on stars in ages.

Anyway, I played a couple of the level one FPP satellites, thinking I would just unregister if i won and use the FPPs later after the WCOOP was over. First one I happened upon was Limit Holdem and won it, even though I usually suck at Limit MTTs. The play was so bad, I next tried a 7 stud H/L FPP satellite, and won that one too. I barely know how to play Stud H/L!

I then decided to try some cash satellites. First I won a seat into #6, the $215 Limit HE event. Next I won a seat into #1 the $530 NLHE event.

I don't know how many of these events I will play. But it seems alot of these players have no concept of how to play the bubble in a satellite where anywhere in the money is the same as first. I saw a guy with the chip lead who could have sat out while about 15 more people dropped out, get knocked out in two hands! The rebuy sats also have a lot of dead money in them from the folks who don't stick around until the end of the rebuy period.

I think these are a good value if you know how to play satellites, even if you are going to sell the T$.

I played a 6 handed PL HE satellite last night, and called off 1/2 my stack on a horrible play late in the game. Very stupid move that probably cost me the seat.

By the way, I won the $530 seat with my minumum rebuys (3). I figured I could outplay most of these guys after the rebuy period, so I stayed out of the way while my first table went through over 40 rebuys. I did pick up a few chips playing big hands tight/passive, and after the addon, I was about 2/3 of an average stack. Just chipped away from there. When we were down to 2 tables the two chip leaders were me, and another guy who sat through the madness at my first table and who also only spent $33. I can't remember his name, but I've seen him before. I think he's a $10/20 NL ring player.

I hope I have time to play alot more of these satellites. Good luck everyone.

Well, i realise this is a stupid question, but those are usually the ones I prefer to ask on anoymous message boards.. :) I've gotten the impression that if you qualify for a tourney through a satelite, you can sell your ticket. How is that done?

Not all sites allow you to sell your seats, but pokerstars does. If you win a seat that you don't want to use, unregister from that tournament. The W$ or T$ (dollars that may only be used for tournaments of different types) will be credited to your account. You may then use those W$ or T$ to buy into other tournaments you are more interested in playing (even more satellites) or sell them for cash. You can post messages looking for someone to buy your tourney dollars on various sites, and get up to 90% of their value if you are lucky, or you can sell them to a broker who will pay you 80-82% usually. The transaction is handled via email through Pokerstars support. Each party should email support saying they have agreed to buy/sell x-W$ for x-real $, and support makes the transfers through the players' accounts. Hope this helps, good luck.
