My first losing day

Postby Kuso » Mon Aug 15, 2005 6:50 am

Well, today was my first losing day at PLO8, and boy was it one to remember. To be fair, all of the loss can be attributed to four boneheaded plays that I made (a first for that many in a day) for which the meds I am taking for my back may have played a part.

But worse than that, I was giving action more than I was getting. I felt like I was winning small and losing big (see hands below). The good part was that I was able to steal LOTS of small pots due to the passive tables, but I lost quite a few big ones. Some were just your regular instances of getting rivered when I was ahead or not hitting my draws when I had the odds to draw. But others were like these hands below.

I realize that I am more-or-less weak-tight (esp. for party), so I am trying to push my second best hands to the suspect raises one often gets at Party (and these are good hands). Am I getting carried away with my play of these hands, or do I just need to take my bruises and move on?

RJones1301 wins $48.65 from the main pot with a full house, Aces full of queens.
There was no qualifying low hand.

For what it's worth, RJones is about 20 PTOBBs/100 after 1500 hands in my DB.

I hate me position here, but who can complain when you flop a boat? Is there anywhere I should slow down and not bet or just call? If I do, what do I do when Villain raises me (as he inevitably will)? Fold? Should I respect this player's calls and raises because he is a winning player?

I'm thinking that the flop call should have been my cue, but then do I fold to a pot bet on the river?

Anyway, all comments are welcome.

There was no qualifying low hand.

FWIW, Sakiboy had about 10 PTOBB/100 in my db after 500 hands.

A few minutes after Hand 1, I figured I was due. I was very excited to flop these trips, and more excited when the boat filled. The reraise on the turn seemed suspect, and I started thinking he had quads. My thinking was that only KK would have called my flop bet. Given that this is party, though, I questioned whether I should assume logic was used by my opponent.

Anyway, I am again confronted to with the dilemma of whether I fold second-best hand, especially to a reraise. Thoughts? Comments?

Luckily the bonus I cleared but me in the black a bit, so I'm not too bitter. :D

1) problem is here that in don't think an A is going anywhere no matter how hard you bet. If you bet and get called you don't know whether you're up against a higher boat or a bare ace trying to fill up. In position it is easier to keep the pot smaller. Out of position I don't know; I'd like to make a smaller bet on the turn and check-call the river, but a small bet on the turn might trigger an aggressive player's sense of weakness. Although here, maybe his desire to slowplay would cause him to flat call....

2) Seems impossible not to lose a stack here. Although I might raise a bit more preflop; hard to imagine that hand calling a bigger raise pf. Very strange flat call by your opponent on the flop...
I really wouldn't have known what to put him on...

Tough luck, but if this is only your first losing day I don't feel sorry for you the least bit :)
