40 hours a week of NL ring games....Engage!

Postby kennyg » Mon Jan 03, 2005 4:31 am

Yeah. I've got to play 160 hours of NL Hold'em this month or the bills aren't gonna be pretty. I'm very optomistic though. I beleive it's a very attainable goal and my emotional control is at my all time highest. Last time I set this kind of goal for myself (40 hours a week)..I only made it around 20 hours...but not this time. There is a little bit of pressure from the bills...nothing too horrible..but at the same time I know it has to be done.

I play on Prima....It's funny I make so much more money at the 1/2 NL games, but right now my roll is fairly small so I'm gonna stick with .50/1.00 NL for the $100 max buyin.

I'm going to be 4 tabling whenever possible as well. At least 3 tables always. It does hurt the reads a little bit but overall I'm pretty sure I can overcome that since I will be playing a lot less hands percentage wise then normally.

I'm on a very cold run of cards right now..but I've been staying even and am confident I'm about to hit a big run. I really haven't won anything significant for about a week.

Here is some interesting stats from my play so far on prima:
15,000 hands
multitabling rate: 1.4 (i use to only play one table)
hourly rate $17
bb/100: 23 (iceman method)

I rounded everything off here to be easy on the eyes.

So now the question is..how will I fare in this endeavor? I have to assume my hourly rate is going to jump up by playing 3 or 4 tables at the same time. How much will it jump though? What kind of hourly rate should I be looking for? I'm setting my goal for $30 an hour...but I will still be happy with $15-20 since that will still be more then enough for me right now.

Give me some goal numbers!! And give me any advice you have about playing these kinds of hours :) I will post my progress....though I'm not sure I want to post it daily...

Thanks in advance guys. See you at the tables and good luck.
Kenny

I'm a little curious as to why you would want to play so many more tables when your rate is good when playing 2 tables at once. In the short run it is probably nice to run 4 tables for the profits but in the long run I think you are doing more of just playing cards and not actually playing poker, which hurts your game I would think. Losing a little profit to make your game grow and get better seems like a reasonable deal to me.

Bob,
In the short term I do need a lot of money. I need to build my roll to where it should be...like 10k...and other then that I have a lot of bills coming in the near future.

I don't feel 4 tabling hurts my game at all. It's a little bit faster but everything can still be followed.. It's probably because I have the mini-view..which allows me to watch all 4 tables on one screen. That makes it a lot easier. Hell, I still find myself putting notes on players and stuff all the time. so it can't be too bad ;-)

Also, I find it makes me play less mediocre hands since there is action all the time anyway. Even on a bad day it's hard to get bored. I def. need a break after a few hours though.

Hope that helps!

Oh, one other thing. The more tables you play...the less your varience should be. I know that is def. the case in limit...and I'm sure it is the same with NL.

I guess MT rate in PT is multi-tabling rate? Ive been wondering what the hell that was for a long time.

I played 3 tables for a couple months. My win rate went down, but my hourly rate still was higher of course. If you can sustain 23 BB / 100 hands playing 2 tables, you can safely play more tables, but I would expect your rate to drop to around 18? Just a guess. If you can hold a win rate of 18 at 4 tables, then by all means do it.
