greetings fellow BTPrs. I generally stuck to HE until recently. I am interested in learning PLO, and am wondering is SS2's omaha section a good starting point?

have read many of your posts on the omaha section and they are very helpful, also read the articles on the front page.

btw, a fellow player has pointed out to me on numerous occasions that party PLO is quite nice...

what kind of VPIP is normal for wining PLO players? can you succeed as both TA and LA or TP? understanding everything is read/table/opponent dependent and experience is no substitue - so I am playing some micro-PL omaha on UB at present to gain some experience.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

first off, i haven't read SS2 but monk's articles on the main page are a good start. Also, you can look all the way back in the Omaha section here and look for some posts by me about starting hands. Monk commented nicely to it.

PLO on party is a gold mine. Mainly, especially at the low limits, its nut peddling as people will call you with marginal hands and draws on paired boards.

I normally have a VPIP of about 22% or so but I don't raise at all preflop since I feel I can better play after the flop. This isn't necessary a strength but I have still been successful. If you play well postflop, you have a tremendous amount of flexibility preflop both with aggression and looseness. I suggest you start playing tight (all 4 cards work well together, big pairs for cheap, ect) until you find your flow.

I agree with bri here. Read FM's two articles and go from there. Berman throws out the same thing but also some more hands to play preflop that, IMO, shouldn't be touched until you get some feel for the game. He also throws out some marginal bets/value bets that one could make on the turn/river and I also strongly think you shouldn't touch that aspect until you get some feel.

I play pretty much the way bri does and just wait for some big draws or monsters and get paid off nicely. People at lower stakes have a hard time for some reason of letting go of draws with the board paired. Doesn't bother me any as I rake in the pot though.

Hey m9, glad to have you here.

Good advice from Stl, except that I DO have about 4 PLO articles on the main site  check out www.livepokerforum.com and hit up "poker articles" on the left hand side, I'm under Ian Berry.

Feel free to post any hands or specific questions and we'll do our best to help out. PLO is (IMO) the most profitable game online at present for those who play reasonably well, but don't get pulled into the misapprehension that it's easy and you'll win straight away - be prepared to think about the game a lot, go over situations in your head, think about mistakes you and other players in your game make and you'll win - EVENTUALLY! And the best advice early on is be cautious, play tight and get a feel for the game on the cheaper tables. Winning players can have a VPIP anywhere up to 100% in PLO (though that's not my game) - however, about 20-25% would be sensible for a new player. I'm right around the 25% mark now, I think.

The most important thing is this - if you're going to play poor starting hands, play them in the last 3 seats. Other than that, stick to ones which you know HOW to play postflop. Preflop play will cost you very little in PLO; if you play hands out of position which will cost you money postflop, you're feeding a leak with your preflop play.

Welcome to the forum.
