Confession

Postby Bob314 » Tue Jan 04, 2005 9:22 pm

One thing about me is that sometimes I need to hear how much I suck, so I'm here to have a little confessional.

I have A-Ko in the CO and most of the table limps in front of me I really don't feel like making a huge raise to try and knock them all off their hands and I figure that since I'm in late position I should be able to have a good amount of control of the way the things go postflop so I limp. Everyone limpes behind me and the flop comes A[h]K[h]9[c]. Wow. An EP guy bets the pot and gets called in 2 spots before it gets to me. I know that I have the EP guy in deep trouble because he can't get away from top pair, and I make it $35 to go (there was about a $7 pot and 3 $7 bets in front of me). Gets back to EP guy and he shoves in. Sweet. Gets to the guy before me and he thinks and thinks and thinks before going all in. He has me covered and I was just about at a full stack when the hand started. HMM. That bothers me a lot. I don't think 1 pair does that, 2 pair? With that board it is possible but this guy seems to be pretty solid. Set seems possible? I just can't fold so I call it off. EP has A-5, the guy in front of me had 9-9. Turn is an offsuit K and I scoop a $250 pot. I almost never feel bad at the poker table and hate it when people apologize after putting a beat on someone but I really felt bad for 9-9. He had his dream flop and got crushed because I couldn't make a laydown that I should have been able to.

So there you have it, my horrendous play in all its glory. I guess at least it has a happy ending for me

I wouldnt call this a horrible play, how much did you have left? If its a $100 buy in table and you have already put $45 into this pot and you only have $55 left I would actaully say this is a decent call, he probably makes the same player here with A/9 or K/9 and in both cases you are in great shape. It is really unlikely that he would have limped with AA or KK and if he did he got very lucky hitting his only set card left in the deck. The only thing that you are realisticly facing is a set of 9's.

For me personally I have stopped feeling bad for drawing someone out, yes I feel for them, we all know what it feels like to get busted by a 10:1 dog on the river but its part of the game and its happened to me enough tmes that its nice when a bad beat goes the right way for a change.

The only thing terrible about your play is the fact that you decided to limp PF with 500 people in the pot. It's a sin not to raise AK in the CO with many limpers to you, especially at the type of juicy loose-passive table that you seemed to have been playing at. Now, your postflop play is just fine. You made a big raise, which is important to knock out the drawing hands. You know you still probably have EP beat, and if the guy before you is thinking that long there is a good chance that you have him beat too. The only thing he beats you with is 99, and I would expect him to raise 99 in that position too a lot of the times. Regardless, the chances of him having AQ, AJ, AT, A9, [Qh][Jh], [Qh][Th], etc. is much greater than having 99. You also have about 4-1 odds on your call, assuming the pot is about $240 and it is about $60 to you. As a matter of fact that is an easy call for me to make and I make it every time against online players. Don't beat yourself up over the call, plus it doesn't hurt to get lucky once in a while, right?

Dream flop...

Postby Danhdan » Thu Jan 06, 2005 9:12 am

I'm thinking the dream flop in this circumstance had one less king, and maybe a 6 or something...without so many hearts...

Yeah, that would be almost impossible to get away from at any limit...I might put him on the flush draw as well and he would of had implied odds to call if he knew you would call as well, wouldn't he?

Anyway, it's at limes like this that I like to think about all the suckout artists that I have played... you might have made the list if the play was bad. :)
