Gaming Club .50/1.00 $100 max buy-in

Stacks - me - $180
opponent - $300

Ive worked up my money quick... Haven't seen too much of the opponent. I have seen him call some big bets and make some big bets.. So that's my read.

dealt [As][Ac] in the bb. 2 limpers and the sb complete. I raise to $5. Only the previously mentioned guy calls.

FLOP pot $12
[9c][4c][Td]

Good flop for the aces. I have a backdoor flush draw. Just hope he hasn't hit a set. I act in front, so I bet my normal $10. Opponent calls.

TURN pot $32
[9c][4c][Td][7s]

No backdoor flush for poor Kenny. I have to act first :(...I hate being out of positon. I lead out for $20. He promptly calls.

RIVER pot $72
[9c][4c][Td][7s][8h]

DAMNIT! every freaking time. 4 to the straight is out for the Jack or the 6. I find it hard to believe he had a jack though unless he holds J10 or JJ. I check. He bets $30 fairly quickly. Good bet by my opponent. I have to call $30 into a $102 pot. I think it's too good of a possibilty he's just represnting the jack and decide to call.

He shows JJ and takes down the $129 pot.

ANy way this can be played differently?? Anyone actually fold here?? It didn't seem like a real consideration to me at the time..but the more I look, there was quite a lot of hands owning me at this point. Lets hear it! All advice appreiecated.

One thing fellas....This guy was not folding his pocket Jacks. He loved to call those big bets. I'd have to make a MONSTER bet to even have this guy consider folding.

OK. This is just my guess. (And I know it wasn't the original question -- the original question is about the river, this answer is about the turn.)

If you had a read on this player that he was going to call a pretty big overbet, then -- since Iceman is right and he only had 6 outs -- the right play for you is to make a big bet on the turn that he will call, but shouldn't. That big bet hurts you on this hand when the bad card hits, but it's a +EV play overall.

Is this right?

Or does the worry that he might already have a set make it impossible to do that?

The problem with leading on the flop for 30 into a 12 dollar pot in my opinion is that only a hand that beats yours will call a lot of the times. If he hit a set your destroyed. Or even pertend he thinks his JJ is good and he pops you back with a raise, you have just created a terrible problem. Instead of keeping the pot small you are playing for what may end up to be your stack. Are you going to shut it down if he just calls your flop bet or like you said "take it on the turn." The turn bet for you to take it down would have to be around the pot or at least half and at that point the pot would be 72 so your firing around 40 or 50 at the pot. Now half your stack is committed. What if he moves you all-in or smooth calls and moves in at a blank river. It just seems like a losing proposition to me. Honestly, even if I held JJ on that board, if I had no further read on my opponent I would lay it down to that big of an overbet and be ready to pounce when he overbet and I made my hand. Also, he could have flopped two-pair or who knows. With the stack sizes in front of each of you, If i was in his (opponnent) position I would call the 5 dollar preflop raise with a great variety of hands including 910s or 1 gappers. I think this hand played out exactly how it should have with exception to the river player which is optional. If you have a good read on him you may fold but otherwise you may have to pay it off.
