10 10 Hand...

Postby legendary loser » Sat Jan 08, 2005 1:03 pm

These hands KILL me. Help me out plz

Party $25 NL...I get [Tc] [Th] UTG and I limp. I've had a lot of problems raising with these types of hands so I've started to limp. I have a stack of $33. UTG+1 raises to $2 and the button calls. The button is a somewhat loose player, but he knows me/respects my raises. I have no read on UTG+1. He has a $11 left. I call.

Flop [Jd] [Jh] [5s]

I check to see what happens behind me. The original raiser bet $2 into the $6.50 pot, the button calls and I know I have to raise or fold here. I raise to $8 and just UTG+1 calls, leaving him with $2.50 left.

Turn is [Js]

I bet UTG+1 last $2.50 and he calls

River is X

UTG+1 flips over QQ

legendary,

I also typically limp with TT up front although I would have led on the flop against two players. If called, I probably would have checked it down after this and folded to a raise or a bet on the turn but this might not work for you. I am not afraid to move chips and my opponents learn this very quickly so even loose aggressive players tend to slow down against a lead bet by me because more often then not it's going to cost them all their chips...
if you don't have this kind of table presence, than leading out may not get you to the river for $2 - but you still get a better idea of where you are at cheap. As it stands though, you checked - it was bet and you still didn't know whwre you were at. So you raised and he calls - which kinda let's you know you are facing a real hand. If you had led for $2 and he raised to $8, you could have gotten away from the hand right then.

I think you did fine. I would check-raise half the time and lead out the other half, and fold once in a while if the bet seems more threatening. As it stands, I would have been inclined to put him on AK moreso than QQ, as I would expect QQ to bet stronger. AA is another possibility, but again the stack sizes on Party are so damn shallow that there is no way to find out without losing your stack.

My only advice would be to stop playing those 50xBB capped games. I really think it destroys any sort of skill in postflop play as anytime there is a raised pot you will be totally pot committed by the flop if you both have something. [/rant]
