Good raise?

Postby briachek » Sat Sep 10, 2005 7:29 pm

No one seemed to be showing a lot of strength. Was this just a stupid raise that worked this time?

i really like this kind of aggression when you think no one is really interested in the board. it has the added bonuses of: 1) getting you called down in the future when you actually do have a monster and bet it, and 2) getting you checked to on the turn and maybe the river barring a monster hand by a caller.

only a low wrap can call and you price out the bare flush draw. if someone calls with the flush draw, you have some valuable information (assuming you get to see the cards).

Makes sense; I don't see that there's a set out there, given the betting, and thus really all you can be seriously scared of is a club. Top two is too much to fold in this situation given you probably have the best hand and, although there are a lot of cards that put a draw out, by raising you'll be likely cleaning up the board a lot (i.e. removing some draws) and building momentum from the best position. So yeah, this is the best play without a doubt.

Why aren't you signed up to the BTP tourney tonight brian?
