Bankroll Goal Accomplished!

Postby AA_Suited » Thu Jan 13, 2005 1:28 pm

Well about two months ago I took the remaining $8 or so I had left on Paradise after my last foray into limits too large for my bankroll. Playing above my bankroll busted me twice!
Anyways I took the last eight dollars and was determined to not do it again. I began playing Paradise's 2c No Limit tables. After a month or so I had $200 and moved up to the 10c tables. Here I am a month later and after last nights session I am up over $500 and have accomplished my first goal! I believe I am ready and tonight will be my first session at the 25NL tables at empire. I just wanted to share, and give many thanks to everyone here at BetThePot. Especially to Iceman and Tetsuo for the great site they run!

Iceman, I'm glad you said this. I've been practicing what I preach about playing the lowest possible limits you can when you are starting out. In the beginning, it's repititions, just like an athlete takes hundreds of ground balls or catches hundreds of passes. It's building the solid foundations, plus not having to unlearn bad habits, and not playing scared because at any moment you'll go bust. Keep saying it, amigo.

The problem is that most people dont listen. Ive tried to teach a few people to play, but they dont want to win $1/ hr. They want to win real money, but it doesnt work that way.

If you jump into $100 NL you will lose.

I can still remembering back when I would quit a session up $8 and being very happy. I didnt care about the amount of money. It was all about win rate. If I really thought it was possible to make $1000's playing poker then maybe I wouldve moved up too fast also, but I was playing for fun. It was a challenge to keep my win rate at a high level. The money was secondary. I wasnt planning on spending anyway so it was just a way to keep score.

My friends see how much money Im winning and they want to do the same thing, but its impossible without paying your dues.

My roll has just got to $1800 and I'll move up to 50c/$1 tables when I hit $2000...

Looking forward to it but prepared to drop back down if roll ever gets back below $1500

People who don't play really dont understand what it takes to win at poker. I have had a bunch of friends ask me to teach them how to win playing poker.Especially when they see me come home from a casino with a nice roll of cash. It is hard to explain that you can help them but its like any other sport or game the only way you get good is practice and in poker that means taking some lumps and losing some money in big games or bifing your time winning peanuts at micro limit.

i started with only a $50 deposit and was playing .50/$1 limit. Luckily I won immediately because I could easily have been broken. I now have been playing for about 9 months online slowly building it with 1/2 limit and now $25PLO. I moved up to $2/$4 before I should have and learned my lesson immediately.

I talk to my friends about this and one of them thinks he's good enough so he deposits $400 and immediately plays $2/$4 limit and wonder why he loses. He goes to $1/$2 limit where he wins consistently only so he can get more money to lose at $2/$4. Eventually, he takes it all to a $15/$30 table, loses it all and doesn't play online anymore. If he wasn't so impatient, he could have been a consistent winner at $1/$2 limit and earned his way up. I have learned the value of good poker playing taking it slowly and doing a lot of forum reading.

Sorry for digging up an old thread, but this one hits the spot for me too.

After learning the hard way (Going down $200 in 4 months) by the usual methods i.e. playing in too high a game, going on tilt, chasing draws, being passive, never letting go of high PP's etc.. I am now finally finishing sessions in profit.

I finally listened to what all the books said and began putting it into practise. Now after dropping all the way down to the $0.02 NL limit on Stars, I've finally moved up to the great heights of the $0.10 level. I know this is peanuts to most of you guys. But for me, I really appreciated playing at the level, as it taught me to play poker without having to worry about losing more money.

I only wish I could of found this forum when I first started, it would of saved me a LOT of money.

So thanks again chaps, and I hope to see you at the $2/$4/$10 levels some time in the future.

Cheers,

SS

The other day I saw K3nt playing at a $25NL. I sat in and lost $15 fast enough. That table was much tighter then the $50 or the $100 table. Of course I lost with TP TK to a pair a 6's and the guy hit the gut shot straight on the river. But it hurts a lot less when it's $15 and not $50.

K3nt played very good poker who has paid his dues and it is going to pay off big time.
