Interesting hand that came up tonight. Basically all the variables fell into place to enable me to make a +EV call with just top pair no kicker - I made a raise in position preflop with my nice drawing hand, and a decent player makes a maximum re-re-raise which surely means AA. Another reasonable, if slightly loose, player calls.

On the flop it comes very ragged with my pair as top pair. Now, the AA guy moves all in. I can assume the other guy doesn't have much to call with on this board, set of Ts is very unlikely given the T in my hand, and the only other hands that have me in any trouble are 44xx and 33xx, highly unlikely given the flop re-raise. Two pair doesn't hurt my hand much as I can still hit all my sidecards to win. Of course, AA could always have one of the low sets, but it seems extremely unlikely. So I know if I hit any of my kickers (all higher than the 4 and 3 on board) I'll win with two pair. This actually gives me close to 45% equity against aces, so it makes the call well worth it. If I had a draw in addition (say, T965) I could actually be favourite, although if there's a flush draw or more coordinated board showing i'd be more willing to fold (if i don't have the draws) because I could be a big dog to AA with a draw on the side.

So, a nice, if slightly lucky, pot. The coolest thing is the odds on the hand, though - although intuitively you'd think aces and two pair, two better hands than mine, would have me in bad shape, I'm actually close to 40% equity in this three way pot! You won't see many better situations in a big pot in PLO!

Just thought it was worth bringing up. The situation needs to be right but you can often get your money in with very raggy hands and be in very good shape against a re-raiser you've put on aces - one of the major problems with re-raising preflop when the money is very deep (oddly, if he just called my raise then lead the flop, i'd have folded and there'd be no story, except presumably him folding to the 2 pair guy re-raising, and losing a medium sized pot - Sevenout's ill-advised preflop re-raise cost him a very large stack here, nearly two buy-ins).

Because he has 3 freakin kickers he can spike to beat the guys aces.
