As an aside, one of my early ideas for an online name was one of the ships in the book you took your name from, "Fate Amenable To Change". I also like "killing time" but none of them fit very easily!!!

Yes Excession is Banksian.
Consilience is not - that's a term coined by EO Wilson in his book of the same name and meaning 'unity of knowledge'. It seemed somehow appropriate to sitting in the middle of a game trying to filter and synergise lots of different sorts of information.

It's a shame but the letters available are too short for most ship names. I particularly like 'Ethics Gradient' and 'Rapid Offensive Unit'.
Another name I would have love but is too long is 'Difference Engine' (more Sterling than Banksian)

Of the shorter names, 'Excession' and Grey Area' were already taken at PS and Party.

Bad news folks. I can't make it. Grrrr. I feel so self-centered for asking but I think we need a follow-up to this tourney the next Sunday. Just so I get a chance to play with all of you. Have really been looking forward to doing that.

I hope we don't play next week. Can't we wait for the off week in the NFL playoffs? 2nd time in my life the Falcons have made it to the Conference Championship, so I am tied up next week for sure.
