Call or Fold??

Postby kennyg » Fri Jan 14, 2005 7:09 am

.50/1.00 NL Gaming Club
stacks about equal at $100

This is a hand I watched on my table. Two expereinced players both at the top of my PT database.

[Ac][Ah] in the BB. Folded to the button who limps.

The button is a good player that plays often and is tight, but just lost a set over set hand. He was complaining about two outers immediately after the hand and hasn't shut up. It's only been two hands since.

Anyway. Button limps, Sb folds, BB with AA raises to $3. Button calls.

FLOP $6.5
[Jc][Th][Ts]
BB leads for $4. Button raises to $12. BB reraises to $28. Button calls

TURN $62.50
[Jc][Th][Ts][6s]
The BB checks his Aces. Button slightly pauses then moves all-in for $63.0. The BB has him covered. The pot is now $125.50 and it's $63.0 to call.

Do you call or fold with the Aces?? What does the button have?

I hope this will be an interesting topic :) Results later.

Though the button may be tilting, the fact is that you raised preflop, you bet the flop, and then you re-raised him. You have made strong moves at every possible opportunity and the button has stayed with you anyways. Honestly I think the absolute worst he could possibly have here is A-J, but would he limp with A-J on the button? Seems like a hand worth a raise to me. When you come over the top of his raise on the flop I certainly wouldn't go all in with a 10. He has position and could easily be looking to trap you figuring that if you bet the turn (which you very well may because you've shown that you like your hand a lot) he can easily get the rest of your stack. I think the big blind checked the turn with the intention of folding if bet at on the turn or the river. I really can't think his Aces are any good.

Great post.

Without spending time on my thought process I put the button on AJ both spades.

A raise to $3 is very small and JT is a very limpable hand that you can call a small raise with. However, I think he would more often raise with JT if its folded to him rather than limp. Button might have KK

I thought about that too Jav. About if the button would limp to trap with A-A or K-K there. I really really really don't think he has A-J. Kenny says these guys are solid regulars, and solid regulars wouldn't play top pair like that, even if they have TK to go with it. Overpair or a 10. Tough to call.

How about KsQs? I can see playing KsQs for a raise on the flop as a semibluff trying to represent a T, and then the all-in on the turn as a continued semibluff with the added flush draw.

Or is that not a "solid regular" type play?

Bob, If the button were in a calmer frame of mind, I would agree. no way would I play AJ like that on the button, but this guy, solid player or not is still sputtering into the chatbox 2 hands later about his beat, he just might play it this way. If he had an overpair and he already knows the BB realy likes his hand, why push on the turn on such a blank? just bet big and keep letting BB hit the pot

Ok, I've left you guys in suspense long enough!

I kinda lied to you a little...not a big lie...a little one :) You see, I was the button in this hand..and I thought that might change your opinions !!! haha

The aces down did call my bet. I played this hand as fast as possible to simulate tilt as much as I could. I wasn't actually tilting...I was not happy about the two outer..but it takes more then that to make me tilt :)

I had [Kc][Tc] for trip tens. He didn't get any help on the river and I took down a nice pot.

BTW..if I were him...I would probably call too. Most of the time a good player with trips would not move all-in on the turn like that.

I love your play on the flop and turn. The raise on the flop is good because I think a wide range of hands can call that raise, including lower pps, AK, AQ, KQ, a Jack, and obviously overpairs. Once he re-raises I would have to put him on QQ-AA, with a slight chance of JJ if he was unconventional. Also, your push on the turn is for only $63 more and with the pot that big I'd assume any overpair would call with ease. Good play.

Thanks MG! He didn't call with as much ease as you would think. He waited till the meter ran all the way down to call this one...so long in fact, I thought he was gonna fold. I guess that fact that he knew I was a regualr still played in his mind..... but...I know I would have called :)
