LOL. Girls attitudes towards poker are always the best. I remember when the ex used to come with me from time to time to the cardroom (before i laid down the law that she was not allowed anymore, because it hindered the implimentation of my 'Dont get up till your unstuck or broke' philosophy). I would play the 10/20 game and she'd sit in the 4/8 game.

As a quick sidenote, Shes actually quite the poker player, she wont call raises with KTo and she'll raise all kinds of crap first in, and its not like shes ever read a book or thought about strategy. Whenever i asked her why she wouldnt call a raise with KTo, she said 'well, that if the raisor has ace-king?' She also mized a bigass 10/20 pot with a SAVAGE river checkraise when she held 33 and the board was KQ665. To this day i still wonder what the other TWO guys in the pot held. Not bad, eh?

All that notwithstanding, she was still a pain in the ass when associated with poker. What would happen is she would win a little pot and be up like $40 and then she'd get up and be like 'im leaving while im still ahead--something YOU should learn to do.'- said all didactic-like. THen of couse shed spend the rest of the time sitting behind me, whining occasionally and eventually falling asleep, and then of course busted my calls when i lost saying that a big losing session is no excuse to not want to pay for things, but would always want to go on little vacation-type excursions when i won, the rationale being that i might as well spend some of the money before i go lose it.

Suffice to say women and poker dont mix, unless those women are the strippers at the club you goto AFTER you just won a fat wad of cash playing poker.

Another hour and a half, another $200 loss and I think I'm about ready to pack it in for the day. Despite piers's very true remark about wins and losses being in the past...I don't think I can help but mention that I've now started this week with a -$1000 slide, without a doubt the worst of my career. That's pretty depressing. Here's the hand that ended tonight's second session.

Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (10 handed)

Preflop: TW is Button with [Ac], [As].
5 folds, MP3 raises, CO calls, TW 3-bets, SB calls, 1 fold, MP3 calls, CO calls.

Flop: (13 SB) [8h], [2c], [Tc] (4 players)
SB bets, MP3 calls, CO raises, TW 3-bets, SB calls, MP3 folds, CO calls.

Turn: (11.50 BB) [2s] (3 players)
SB bets, CO calls, TW raises, SB calls, CO calls.

River: (17.50 BB) [7h] (3 players)
SB checks, CO checks, TW bets, SB calls, CO raises, TW calls, SB calls.

Final Pot: 23.50 BB

Results in white below:
SB has Td Ad (two pair, tens and twos).
CO has Jd 9d (straight, jack high).
TW has Ac As (two pair, aces and twos).
Outcome: CO wins 23.50 BB.

Ah well, I'm off to get extremely trashed. G'day, mates!

Put in 3ish hours and FINALLY managed to book a pretty decent win, slightly under $300. Feels good to finally pull that off, especially since my session started with a bit of adversity to the tune of $120 down right off the starting line. Cards heated up and my play remained (mostly) solid, so I'm off to celebrate with Mr. Beam. Later, folks!

You're completely welcome to disagree with me, but my opinion is that the very end of Dead Poets Society is one of the most powerful moments I have ever seen. One of the few movie scenes capable of almost bringing a tear to my eye, feel free to laugh at that. What really astonishes me is that people can fucking have a god-damned mother-fucking argument during that scene. Jesus fuckin christ, my friends are fuckin idiots.

Well, after a couple more baddish sessions I think I'm gonna wrap this week up a day early and take tomorrow off. The good news is that I can probably forego a cashout this week as the checking account is looking pretty decent. The bad news is:

Hours played :36:36
End Result : -1443
Hourly rate : -39.43/hour

Great Scott! My mood is actually pretty steady right now. That may be a sign of maturation, because I know that I spent almost all of the week in an extremely bad run. I also know that my play wasn't always very solid, but even there I usually had the discipline to either quit playing, or at least look at my play analytically rather than emotionally. So maybe it's maturation, or maybe it's just an element of shock, what Caro calls the threshold of misery, meaning that after a certain point the situation seems so hopeless that you're numb to the losses. I certainly hope that's not the case here!

Like I said, my mood is pretty decent right now because I still have slightly over 2K in the bankroll, the bills are paid for the month, I'll be getting a nice rake rebate in a few days, and I feel pretty good about my play. I've certainly been in worse spots. But I will admit that last night, my mood was a bit less than good. Devestated might be a better word. A lot of that had to do with the large quantity of whiskey I downed after booking another loss.

Liquor sometimes has a tendency to turn me into a very moody and miserable person. Last night's bleak and drunken revelation had to do with the state of my current life as it relates to poker. If you've been following, you know that I've been booking a lot of hours in addition to working at the gas station, so my social life hasn't been very active. My general mindset has been that I'm willing to make some short-term sacrifices in the interest of being able to build my bankroll and move up in limits, so that I'd then have enough money coming in that I wouldn't have to play so much.

For the first couple weeks, this worked because I was winning a good bit. But yesterday, halfway through a bottle of Jim Beam, the following bleak thought his me: that during my best of times, I'm nothing more than a guy who makes a lot of money playing poker. So what does that make me during the losing stretches? Basically a guy with no life, no visible contribution to the human race, and I lose money for good measure. Extremely depressing.

Now don't worry, I'm sober now and therefore no longer have such disturbing thoughts. I realize that you don't have to be a doctor or a scientist or whatever to make the world a better place...just spreadin a little joy and laughter is enough. But I do realize that there is a kernel of truth in those depressing alcohol-induced thoughts, that being a pro poker player can really make your life seem worthless; especially, of course, when you're losing. Which is why part of me is really glad I did go back to my old job. As much as I've been grumbling ever since I went back there, it does prevent me from being a shut in, and keeps me a part of the human race.

Wow, I really went on a fucking rant there. I apologize if that came off as morose or depressing, because to me it's actually pretty uplifting in a twisted sort of way. I think I've really learned a good bit about both poker and life this past week, and although I'd have preferred to pay a bit less than $1443 for those lessons, I still think I got a pretty good bargain ;)

Molina... I'd be willing to front you money to wear that crazy gumby suit and crash 4 year olds birthday parties at Chuck E. Cheese... If you're still lookin for work... :D

TW... far be it for me, the self-proclaimed "most degenerate BTPer" (even though you had your parents sign up and make some bs votes to have you win that poll, which is VERy bush league IMHO) to have anything nice or compassionate to say... But, that was an interesting and honest last post... Brought a little tear to my eye... sniff sniff...
