Omaha is a massive action game and, because you'll flop a lot of drawing hands, the worst players are more likely to be getting their money in with hands that have some chance of winning than in holdem, so their money lasts a lot longer and they can go on big winning runs. This makes it a pretty attractive game for live ones.
PLO was dying out, save for a few high roller games in vegas round the WSOP and a few games in London and around mainland europe, a few years back. The internet has given it a new lease of life and it seems to have a bit more popularity in casinos in the USA now too. I think you said there were even some low buyin live games round your way, STL - pretty cool, huh. Would've been unthinkable just 5 or 6 years back.
