Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Just came 7th in the $8k Guaranteed tourney and netted a nice $260. I went out on A9 vs KQ which was kinda frustrating especially since 6th place was $400 but I'm happy enough with my winnings. I also won a couple of heads up matches today and made about $60 at the NL50 tables (i'm playing these instead of the nl25 now, let's see how that goes). So all in all it's been a great day and my bankroll reflects that.

Played a few more heads up matches, lost a few, won more though. I've also managed to get about $210 in ~800 hands of NL50 (24ptbb/100) so that's been awesome. My bankroll jumped almost 50% today :D I'm lovin' it.

Played some more HU matches, i've played a total of 116 now with a total ITM of 63% and ROI of 27%. I think that's still a bit low and I can definitely get higher so we'll see what my results are after another hundred or so. I'm aiming somewhere in the 70% ITM.

I played my first $55 SNG as well and came second. Very disappointed with that however as I was a slight chipleader going into the HU part and played terribly, i'm not sure what went on. It does however complete nine consecutive ITM finishes for SNGs with 5 first place finishes, 2 seconds and 2 thirds. I wonder how long I can keep this up. My roll is ever increasing and i've almost turned $200 into $2,000 now.

Playing in the BTP HORSE tournament atm and i'm coming first. It's still early stages but it would be nice to win :P

Thanks guys.

Stu - I'm currently studying at Uni and I don't have a job so some days I can play morning tournaments if I have a class in the afternoon or sometimes I just skip to play poker lol.

I played in the $10k guaranteed today and was doing quite well coming 26th with about 75 remaining when i got dealt AT. I decide to raise 3xBB to try and steal a few blinds since everyone was playing extra tight with the top 45 places being paid but I got a caller. Flop comes T92 which I'm very happy with. I lead out with my regular continuation bet of 2/3 the pot and he raises me a little more than a minbet which is almost his entire stack but he has me outchipped so I call all in. He flips over TT. OUCH. Needless to say I didn't catcher my runner runner Aces and got knocked out 71st.

I also played in the BTP HORSE Tourny and was leading for a while but ended up with a modest 5th place. All things aside however today was another great day for poker. I figured with my roll approaching $2k I could play the $50 HU games. I did and I won 6 in a row. My roll was $1989 or something at this point and I wanted to get it over $2k so I played a $20 HU match, however I lost. Rats. Oh well, i'll just play another $50 one that'l get me over. Lost that too. Damnit. Ok so here's where I geniously decide i'll play a $200 + $10 HU match and if I lose i'm back to where I was at the start of the day, but if I win i'm over $2k. I won :D Funnily enough too I felt better than my opponent and I think if all players are of his skill level then I think I can beat the high stakes games too with bankroll. Anyway after this I played another $50 and won.

Total winnings of the day is about $350.

Less than 2 weeks ago my bankroll was about $200. An absoloutely incredible run of luck, cards and consistent good play has multiplied my bankroll by a factor of over 10 and it's now sitting at the glorious total of..

I am thinking of investing in a new computer with two 20/21 inch LCD monitors to go with it. It should cost me about $3,500 AUS (about $2650 US). I'll probably withdraw my money when my roll hits $3K so i'll still have a few hundred to rebuild my roll with and I won't withdraw after that untill I hit $10k.

Very nice .

I got a lot of experience with withdrawing and building up again.
My advice would be to NOT withdraw unless you really have to. And you are still playing and your CPU is working so there would be no urgent reason to withdraw.

Make a few K more and withdraw money you can spare and still play at the $50 level.
It is hard to go back and play the lower limits when you are used to the money and % of the current levels you play.
Also it has happened to me every time that when you want to start over a bad streak happens. You start getting frustrated and questioning your play. It is a bad situation to be in and if you can avoid it please do.

Try to make it 3K and withdraw from that leaving 3 K in your roll.

Just an advice.

Thanks for the advice. Does anyone else have any other thoughts on this topic? It's definitely a good idea to leave a good amount of money in my poker account after i've withdrawn enough for my new computer, but I was thinking about $1,000 should be enough to play around with and rebuild my roll to a good level with.. Anyway, yesterday I played only 4 HU games as FTP was down for a while. I won 1 $50 and lost 2 $50, and I won a $100. Net profit of about $40 after fees. I also played some $3/$6 and $5/$10 limit for a bit of change and suprisingly ended up with another $140 or so to add to my winnings. I didn't play many hands but one was just great - I got AQ in EP and raise, everyone folds to the blinds who both call. The flop comes Q85 and the SB bets, BB calls, I call. Turn comes a J or something, SB bets, BB calls, I raise, SB calls, BB calls. River brings another 8, SB checks, BB checks, I bet, They both call. One has KQ and the other Q4, I rake in a pretty big pot. Are most limit games like this? I'm not an expert in limit, infact my knowledge beyond hand selection is quite limited but I felt if I play only say 10 - 15 percent of hands and bet when I hit, I should be able to beat the game. Thoughts anyone?

Quick update. I've been playing only $50 SNGs and nothing lower now. Occasionaly i'll play a $100. I've also taken a shining to limit and have made a few hundred playing that alone which i think is quite good considering i haven't read a book or really studied the game at all. I play at the $3/$6 level. My bankroll is still growing exponentially and i've just passed the $2.5k mark.

Hello Arch Nemesis,

You still up for the rematch game tonight at 8EST? If so I will post the game to be played at 7:30 in the limit section as I still have not decided what I would like to delve into as of yet.

Sorry to anyone awaiting (eagerly or not) the results of this mission but i've been sidetracked with a newfound love of Limit poker over the past few days. I will continue with the mission either way but I don't predict it being completed any time soon. I've finished 150 HU matches with an average ITM of 65% span across several limits. I have had the most success at the $10 level with a 71% ITM rate. The worst has been at the $50 limits with only a 58% success rate - I don't have a sufficient sample size here for any concrete evidence however (24 matches total). The average time for a match is 17.83 minutes. This works out to ~ 3.3651 matches per hour.

Hourly Win Rates

I'll do this just for the $10 level and the $50 level.

Hourly winnings are calculated as follows:

[ (Prize * Winrate) - Buyin ] * Matches-per-Hour

Therefore, at the $10 stakes:

[ (20 * .71) - 10.5 ] * 3.3651 = $12.45 Per Hour

At the $50 stakes:

[ (100 * .58) - 50.25 ] * 3.3651 = $19.35 Per Hour

That being said, I REALLY think a winrate of 65%+ is sustainable at the $50 stakes and I know that 4 of my losses were due to terrible beats. AJ lost to AQ when I flop 2 pair and he rivers his queen for a higher 2. My flopped flush loses to a river flush when he chases with the ace with terrible odds. Kings losing to A3 and finally (and this one I just love) losing JJ to JTo when he gets the flush. Lets say for a purely theoretical stake that I can sustain 65% winrate in the long run. Hourly earnings will then be..

[ (100 * .65) - 50.25 ] * 3.3651 = $42.06 Per Hour

Those numbers are much better looking :P

Okay so anyway, i've been playing a lot of limit lately and have enjoyed winning a large sum of money in a short span of hands.

Five days my bankroll was just over $2k. Now i'm just under $3k. I don't know how long this streak can last but I will ride this wave till I can ride it no more and wring every last drop of proverrbial water from the towel untill my winnings cease to pulsate in at 10% of my bankroll at a time. Untill that day comes however, ph34r Me!

Hehe nw dude!

Geez your are destroying those tables, with the bankroll thing i wouldnt take any out unless u have to. Just keep doing what you are doing until you have the roll to play the real high stakes games and then withdraw periodically from then.
