Think I dropped the ball on this one.

I play limit, this NL stuff is confusing to me.

I just figured that if he had me beat or drew out to beat me that it just wasnt worth it at that point.

Thoughts please.

That's a hard one either way. He was playing like he had an over pair but was afraid of something like AK. So I would put him on Q's. So you made a good lay down IMO.

I probably would have raised this preflop. The blinds are becoming significant, so I don't like slowplaying when I've got the goods, unless there are some short stacks that need to make an all-in move or there's a maniac raising it up.

I see from my hand history the opponent is me, so I'll post my side of the HH after everyone's commented.

I did think about raising preflop. If it had been limit I would have. And prob fired again on flop. But I thought that in NL from mp JJ was just too weak.(?) Im just lost when in NL.lol

Yes, Norton it was you. If I remember correctly I really thought about going all in here cause at that point u had really started betting fast and furious the past few hands.

If all you wait for in the later stages of a tourney is QQ, KK and AA you will be blinded to death; calling is usually a fairly weak play in an NL tourney so you have to not only raise the likes of JJ but consider doing it with a lot of ace-containing hands and smaller pairs in LP. But I reckon JJ is certainly a raising hand in MP in this spot! If someone pops you back you can always lay it down preflop but thats too much of a hand to give the blinds a free look IMO.

As for the flop play, after you just called preflop you gotta fold or raise, and I would lean towards folding after he lead out. Because you didn't raise preflop, norton won't put you on much of a hand and thus is likely to lead out on any flop. If, in this instance, you were going to fold to a bet on a flop of undercards, you shouldn't have played your jacks in the first place, and certainly not for a raise. You don't have close to the required odds to look for a set in a tourney.

Def. need to raise preflop here. Jacks in Middle position with the blinds high is a damn good hand. probably raise it to 450-600 preflop. then come firing out at the pretty rag flop.

As for the hand the way you played it..i would rais on the flop..as he can't put you on JJ. He could have anything from AK, AQ, AJ, A10, 55-99. And there is a slight possiblity he has a higher pocket....but you are the big stack...apply pressure with the chips you have to accumlate more.

Limping with JJ in a ring game in EP is fine because the blinds are small compared to the stacks, and you aren't necessarily in a hurry to accumulate chips -- you can take a chance on flopping that set and taking someone's stack. In a tourney, with the blinds becoming significant, you aren't going to get the right implied odds, and you can't wait all night to flop a set.

Here's the hand from my point of view. The table was being fairly passive, with the exception of kenny, and no one was playing tricky, so I was playing aggressively. When you called my raise, I figured you had something like AK/Q/J/T or TT/99/88/77.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t150 (8 handed)

Button (t1965)
Hero (t1990)

Preflop: Hero is SB with [Qd], [Kc].
2 folds, MP1 calls t150, 3 folds, Hero raises to t450, 1 fold, MP1 calls t300.

Flop: (t1050) [3s], [2d], [Tc] (2 players)
Hero bets t750, MP1 folds.

The hand that Iceman would like to forget.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (5 handed)

MP (t8230)
Button (t2065)
SB (Iceman5) (t1640)
Kowboy (t5410)
UTG (t3905)

Preflop: Kowboy is BB with [Tc], [Kc].
UTG folds, MP folds, Button folds, SB (Iceman5) completes, Kowboy checks.

Flop: (t400) [Ac], [Jd], [Th] (2 players)
Iceman5 checks, Kowboy bets t600, Iceman5 raises to t1415, Kowboy calls t815.

Turn: (t3230) [5d] (2 players)

River: (t3230) [Qc] (2 players)

Final Pot: t3230

Results in white below:
Iceman5 has 8s 9s (straight, queen high).
Kowboy has Tc Kc (straight, ace high).
Outcome: Kowboy wins t3230.

Ice asked how I called his all in bet.

First you can see he only completes. Any Ace he would have at least doubled the blind. So at this point we both have T200 invested. Then Ice used the ole check raise on me after I bet T600. T800 more to go. I have bottom pair. Since I don't think Ice has an ace I count 3 outs for my king, 4 outs for the queen and 2 outs for the 10. That gives me 9 outs. I did put Ice on a jack with a small kicker. Having him well covered and it only costing me T800 I called

Norton what was the game number I'll look back and see what I had?

What did you have on the one the flopped 3 clubs? That was the hand that cost me the TRN.

You were at the other table for the hand with striker.

I had AJ, no clubs. After that flop I decided I was going to make a play at the pot by check raising the turn, or betting the river if you slowed down. Although, in retrospect, I probably should have check/called after I hit my J.

It's such a huge advantage to be big stack on the bubble :)
