Playing for half the pot, a scoop, or is this a trap hand?

Postby Kuso » Sun Oct 16, 2005 6:03 am

I checked to see what other action there would be. When no one called the bet, I decided to drop my hand, thinking that I was playing for half the pot. When I reviewed the hand, however, I realized that maybe there was more potential than I thought.

How marginal is it to play this hand? What exactly am I playing for?

Eek! Jeez, don't fold that! In PLO maybe, but people will bet a LOT more different hands in PLO8. You could very well be up against A2 or two pair, or a whole lot of nothing. Even if you're up against a higher set you have some equity for the low (you make it somewhere in the 35-40% region depending on his cards), and he has something other than a set far more frequently than the set!

This is a definite raise IMO. Calling might let in A2/A3 hands which own a piece of the low, and like I said more often than not your 55 will be ahead for high. In PLO8 there are a lot more hands that bet that flop than in PLO. His PFR makes it very unlikely he has your hand beat. I estimate you're well ahead of this guy and need to pound him, you could very well be freerolling the high against an A2 or something, and there's no big draws to worry about, making the hand easier to play on the turn out of position. Please don't fold though! You have a strong 2 way hand against an opponent who is probably some distance behind.

i agree that i should have raised.

i had just been burned with sets 3 times in a row, so i was a bit gun shy. this situation was quite a bit different than the others, however.

thanks for the advice.
