I'm just now getting around to readiong the 1st one CJ. I'd would very much be interested in the study group once I finish it and am ready to start the 2nd one though.

Couldn't agree more. Both books are must reads, but HoH II is an absolute must for tourney/SnG players. He helps with short handed and heads up play as well as short stacked play. For SnG players like myself, the book is gold. Definately +EV

Recentlly finished the 1st book. I agree that it has improved my tournament play 100%+, but there are 2 small issues I have with it. (Who the hell am I to disagree with Harrington though?)

1 - It seems like almost every problem he gives is early in the tournament where the blinds are miniscule in proportion to chip stacks. I wish he would have given more examples where the blinds were a bit larger.

2 - A lot of times he recommends raises and bets that seem right, but on-lline I don't know if he understands that if someone will limp in with a hand, well heck, it's usually good enough to call the 5x BB raise too. He also says that you usually want some action with a hand like KK, but too many players play any Ace and too many flops have an Ace so I'm not sure that I want as much action as he does when I'm playing an online tournament.

Overall though, GREAT book and I will be re-reading it soon before purchasing Vol II

The first section of Vol 2 goes into a lot more plays, however, the early rounds are where people get in the most trouble, I think. Later sections of Vol 2 deal with short tables and playing later in the tourney.

Yes, it seems they will come in and stay in online more often, a fact Harrington acknowledges quite a bit. The reason he doesn't overemphasize it is simple: you'll win more than you lose.

With regard to how often an A falls, the human mind is setup to remember bad things that happen to us, so we avoid getting hurt in the future. Good for avoiding sabre tooth tigers and hot pans on stoves, but very bad for poker players. Just keep the statistics and random probabilities in mind. Always. It's the only antidote.

Yesterday, all in with AA vs. QQ and JJ. I knew a Q or J was going to come. Sure enough, both came. No Ace. Should I fold AA preflop next time? Probably not. :)

Of course you don't fold it, but just make sure you say your good-bye's to everyone before the flop.
