Bankroll Needed?

Postby lamaros » Fri Oct 21, 2005 10:07 am

What kind of bankroll do I need to start playing the $25 and $50 tables.

I consider myself pretty good, I've made over a hundred dollars at the penny stakes the last few days (probably around 15-20 hours) playing about two tables at a time, and I'm thinking I should probably move up and get a better return on my time. I'm still only sitting with $330 in my Stars account though. I was thinking I'd have a go at it when I get to $350 tomorrow, but some advice from those of you with more expereince would be great.

Cheers.

Oh, and your articles are generaly pretty good Monk. :)

Most of what you said was just backing up my personal observations in my recent exposure to the game, but there was some good stuff in there. Particulary the point where you say "if you're going to bet, always bet the pot." I hadn't been playing like that up to that point an have noticed an imporvment when adopting it as a (general) philosophy.

which game? is it safe to assume plo hi?

i think there are a lot of variables involved. if your BR is easily replaced, do the 25s now. move up to the 50s when you are confident that you can always go back down to the 25s to replenish your BR.

if your BR is not easily replaced, i would wait until you have at least 20 buy-ins ($500 for 25s). that being said, i am really conservative, so your requirements may be different.

also, consider milking bonuses for a rapid boost to your BR.

BTW, welcome to BTP!!!!

Hi, nice to be here. This seems to be a good forum for Omaha discussion. :)

I play both PLO and PLO8.

I'm trying to build up without risking my BR, I started basicly on $20 and worked my way up to my current roll over time with pretty careful/casual play (I play NLHE and LHE also) but since I have discovered Omaha this last little bit I have found I am able to generate the money quite quickly so I want to test myself at a higher level.

From what you say I think I might try to push my BR up to $400 on the penny stakes this weekend and then give the $25 a go after that.

I agree with Kuso that I would wait til 20 buy ins to move to the next level if you don't want to replace your bankroll. I am also conservative about it too. Hell, I'm still playing 25 PLO games with a bankroll good enough for 200 or 400plo but I make up for it by volume. the 25plo games are just easy money with low variance (for me at least) so I am very comfortable there.

Welcome to the board and feel free to post questions and hands.

I just noticed that Stars has $10 high games, so I'm going to play them for a bit. Pity they don't have $10 Hi-Lo games also, but I guess I'll make do.
