Hi Guys,

the last two days were very expensive... dropped around 9 buy-ins. Here is another example from today. I hit bottom pair, bet out for protection against a flush draw. I got one caller and put him on that flush draw. On the turn, a blank, he raised me. On that point I had no idea where I am. Does he hit two pair with his flush draw or a set of 4's? With that thinking I should have folded the river, but damn... it isn't easy to fold a full house!! Where did you guys played it differently??

First hand - I play bottom sets very carefully because what you think is the best thing to happen (board pairing) could easily make someone a higher boat. I would fold on the turn after the raise because that turn card didn't help him. Unless you know this guy to be a maniac that will overvalue two pair, you have 3rd set on a pretty uncoordinated board for this raise. He has to have at least 99, but probably KK for the slowplay.

Second hand - You did what you could on the flop and turn. I would have checked the river because people backdoor into flushes all the time. If he didn't have the flush, he might also check and you get cheap showdown. Since he had the straight, it is unlikely that he would bet full pot so you could call a reasonable bet on the river.

I noticed that you bet close to the pot size, but not the actual pot size. Not trying to nitpick, but if you are gonna bet the pot, get that extra 10 or 20 cents in there because that increases the pot for later streets so for the pots you win, you could get another $1 or $2 on it which can add up.
