Am I Overplaying Two-Pair? (SH LHE)

Postby EscapePlan9 » Tue Oct 25, 2005 6:48 pm

Am I over-playing two-pair on 6-max? I feel like just calling the C/R would be missing out on value bets, but I cannot find it in me to fold something like top-two-pair on these boards fearing a set. I generally expect to be against a weaker two-pair or some overplayed hand. Perhaps this shit variance is clouding my judgment, but I'm starting to think I should just be calling down turn C/R with two-pair.

Top 2 in SH is a pretty strong hand. Looks fine to me.

Nortons right, obviously. Your going to be up against aces up or even a naked pair of aces with an OK kicker about 90% of the time here. Id threebet then check/call the river once he fourbet me.... I might have even thrown in a river raise, then just called the threebet, even. People in SH play thier aces up hands way hard.

C/R on the turn means much more than a C/R on the flop. But since this is SH, wouldn't it be better to call the C/R and C/C the river? or would this be too weak?

Yeah, I don't see a problem with the way you played the hands...you could be facing many worse hands than these sets people hit against you. Probably recording how many times having top two pair against a set and having two two against anything else might keep you betting your hands this way.

Like Kuso said, reads on your opponents in these situations is critical. I am playing these same limits as you on UB right now. I think at least half of the opponents in that situation will not cap on the turn without top 2 or better. My last session, I had a couple hands that there was no doubt in my mind I was going to win, only to be beat by a hand that I could not believe my opponent backed down from when I raised the turn. One of them had two other players in it, and I was actually in third place.

However, with those two particular hands that you posted, I think I would need an extraordinary read to not cap those turns. Particularly the second one, in which I would probably think the BB was trying to play back at my steal.

I play both of these hands exactly the same way. The action on the turn looks like a set, but likes others have said, people could easily have lower two pair or worse. I call down both rivers as well.
