I have only played live NL 3 times. All in Vegas. The play was very different from online but mainly it was because I was playing an unlimited buy in game so some people had $200 and some had $10000. The blinds there were $2/$5 but were almost obsolete. A $30 raise meant nothing when there are such high implied odds with monster stacks.
So I heard that Hollywood in Shreveport now spreads a $2/$5 NL game with a $300 max buy in. Perfect. Im there dude!
I got to watch a few hands before my name was called. Jesus Christ these guys were bad. I thought I was watching Party Poker play money tables. So I buy in for $300.
Relevant players:
Seat #1...young guy with ear ring. Has $900 or so but hes talking about needing to double up so he can get even for the last 2 weeks
Seat #2...Moron..busts over and over again
Seat #3...happy asian guy seems to know what hes doing but playing short stack
Seat #4...serious asian guy..means business, plays tight.
Seat #5...comes in mid session. Table captain. knows some guys there and tell one that he shouldve staked him in some tourny because he won. Talks about pot odd calls and liking to have live cards. A real know-it-all. Annoying but seems to know his stuff (until I see him play)
Seat #6...Young guy...average player keeps getting out drawn
Seat #7....Redneck. Has no clue but thinks he does
Seat #8....Playing ok, winning some big pots
Seat #9....Business man has big stack but is clueless. Doesnt know the simplest poker terms. Bets and folds out of order.
Seat #10...Very good tight aggressive....Oh wait...thats me in seat #10.
A couple big pots for background. Seat #6 raises to $25 with JJ. Seat #7 calls with TT. Seat #8 calls with AA. Seat #9 calls with KK. Of course I didnt know the hands at the time. Why isnt someone reraising. People have been calling $100 preflop with crap. The flop is
[9c][8c]. Preflop raiser (JJ) checks. TT checks. AA goes all in $275 into a $100 pot. KK calls. JJ now deceids to call. TT folds after much thinking and says hes folding the winner.
Turn J...River A. AA wins. JJ gets pissed because he thought he caught a miracle. TT says "I told you I had the winner" and has the dealer flip up his TT which wouldve hit a gutshot.
Another big pot. Redneck seat #7 raises to $25. 1 call, then someone reraises to $100. Redneck calls and they are heads up. Flop
[4h][9s]. Old man goes all in for $180. Redneck calls with his
[Qh] (he called a $100 reraise with KQs). He hits runner runner str8 and cracks AA.
There are alot of big reraises and sometimes people open raising to $100 and getting called.
Hand #1) My 1st big hand......I raise UTG to $25 with
[Ks]. Happy asian guy calls, then Redneck reraises the min to $50 in the BB. It was early and I decided to gamble. I pushed all in. Redneck had about $200 more and called with QQ. I lost. Maybe I pushed it too much but this guy would call that with AT or worse. He called a $100 reraise preflop with KQs remember? He did alot worse also in some other hands.
Hand #2) I limp with 99. Flop comes 5 way and is
[9s][2s]. Serious asian guy bets pot $25. Young guy calls. I raise to $150 ( I have $300). Asian guy thinks for a long time and folds. Young guy shows the
and folds.
Hand #3) Redneck open raises to $25. Business man is losing his ass now and calls. I reraise to $100 with KK. Redneck calls. Surprise surprise. I have another $300 and he has me covered. Business man folds.
The flop is
[9h][4d]. He checks and I bet $150. He calls. The turn is the
. He checks and I push my last $150 in. He calls and flips up JJ. This is not my day.
Hand #4) 2 limpers and I raise to $40 with JJ in the BB. Seat #1 calls as does young guy in seat #6. $120 in pot. The flop comes
[Jd][Td]. Im all in for $225 or so. Seat #1 folds (he had A5....lol). Young guy calls his last $60 and flips up
[8d]. Are you kidding me? K8s for $40? Luckily, the board paired and I hit a boat on the friggin moron. When he left he said "good hand I had to call with the flush" I said well yeah, but why did you call $40 preflop with K8s?' I swear he said "It was soooooted" and he was serious.
When new guy table captain sits down he posts a blind out of turn. There are 3 limpers and he raises to $40. Everyone folds and he says "I had a real hand" and shows ATs. Next hand he raises to $40 preflop with JTs. Hes raising like this constantly with like $150 in his stack. I decide to target him.
Hand #5) I limp UTG with
[Kd]. It folds to him and he raises to $25. Young guy is now replaced with a hobbit looking guy who has no clue and has made it clear has there to have fun. Hes having alot of fun and has a $900 stack after winning hand after hand with 85s, 73, 97 etc. He calls the $25. Its folded to me and I ask the table captain how much he has left. He mumbles. I tell the dealer that I bet whatever he has. Table captain tells me I need to worry about the other guy and not him. I say "I think I have his 85s beat" The dealer says he has $100 so I bet $100. Table captain calls. The friggin hobbit calls the $100 also after asking ME how much I have left....lol. Are you kidding me? Are you calling $100 preflop in a $2/$5 NL game with out a monster? These guys do it with Q9s.
So the pot is $300 already. The flop comes
[Jh][4s]. I push my last $225 or so all in. The hobbit almost calls but says "I think you got me" Yeah I think so moron.
The table captain hits a flush with his
[8h] and takes my $300 pot. No friggin way!. He tells me that his call was correct because he expected mutliway action. Correct me if Im wrong here. This guy did just win a tournament you know, so maybe he IS an expert. He raises 1/4 of his stack with K8s and then calls all in? He tells me he knew he had "live cards" and was expecting multiway action. Even if he KNEW the hobbit would call $100, he was calling $75 to win $300. 4-1 odds knowing he need a flush to win and he has NO implied odds. Whats the odds of hitting a flush with suited cards? 24-1 I think? He told me that I "think too thin"...this guy is ready for the WPT.
It went on and on like this all afternoon. People calling raises and reraises with no implied odds.
Check this out. Unraised pot. Flop is T85. Checked around. Turn is a jack. Hobbit bets $100 into the $15 pot. Redneck calls him. Hobbit has J5. Redneck has QJ. The board pairs the 8 and counterfeits the Hobbits 2 pair. Redneck wins with jacks and 8's and a queen kicker.
I just cant believe what Im watching. Now I know how TheUnknownPlayer makes so much money playing live. Im down $600 and Im only willing to play one more buy in. I mean, this game is as juicy as it gets and I know if I can double up, I'll clean these guys out and build a monster stack, but this doesnt seem to be my day so one more buy in and Im out.
Last hand......I have JJ on the button. 5 people limp. I could see a cheap flop but I know I have the best hand so I raise to $40. ALL 5 PEOPLE CALL $40. Jesus christ. 8 BB raise and they still all like their hands. Some of them only have $100 or so left. What could they possible be calling with? The pot is already $240 and I have $230 left.
The flop comes 882. It gets checked to me. I dont see any other way to play this. I push all in. If someone has an 8 so be it. It gets folded to seat #8 who calls. He flips up quad 8s. Back to online poker for me.
I really wasnt too upset. I think I played well. I just never got a break. It would be so easy to double up and double up again in this game. It just didnt work out for me this time.
The AKs hand where I went all in preflop I couldve called the reraise and saw a flop I guess.
The last JJ hand I could limped and looked for a set, but I knew I had the best had (which I did). I didnt expect 5 callers for $40.
The KK hand he hit a 2 outer.
The AK vs K8s hand....nothing to say about that...its obvious.
Someone please tell me if they see any glaring mistakes on my part. Espccially Mad Genius since I think he plays the $2/$5 live game alot.
