Any good books left in the world?

Postby Stoneburg » Fri Oct 28, 2005 1:10 pm

I like reading so I've picked up a bunch of poker books over the last 2 years, now I'm running out. I like reading about Poker but I don't like reading things I know over and over again, which easily happens with poker books. I've skimmed two books that aren'ton this list but found them too basic and they didn't seem to add anything new, so I skipped them. Most of these books have at least had something new to add, and some of them have been amazingly productive.

Here's the ones I own and have read
Theory of Poker - Sklansky
Texas Holdem for Advanced Players - Sklansky
Harrington on Holdem - Harrington
Pot and No Limit - Ciaffone
Imrove your Poker - Ciaffone
Caro's Fundamental Secrets of Winning Poker - Caro
Caro's Book of Poker Tells - Caro
Super System II - Brunson
Zen and the Art of Poker
Poker Wisdom of a Champion - Brunson
Championship No Limit & Pot Limit - Cloutier
Psychology of Poker - Schoonmaker
Internet Texas holdem - Hilgar
52 tips for texas holdem - Shulman

Here's the ones that I found interesting and have ordered
Ace on the river - Greenstein
Harrington on Holdem 2 - Harrington
Weighing the Odds in Hold’em Poker - King Yao
How Good Is Your Pot-Limit Omaha - Reuben
How Good Is Your Pot-Limit Hold'Em - Reuben

The only two books I can think of that I haven't read or ordered that seem interesting are these two:
Tournament Poker for Advanced Players - Sklansky
and
Championship Omaha - Cloutier

This boils down to two questions:
1. How good are those two books, should I buy them?
2. Are there any good poker books not on my lists?

I play Texas and Omaha (both hi and hi/lo).
I don't play Fixed limit.
I don't mind learning a new game if there are people playing it (I plan to learn all the HORSE games).

Another topic on books may be of interest FWIW.

I think Sklansky is comming out with a LLNLHE book. I am not sure though. I hope so for it will most likely be amazing.

The essay books by Mason Malmuth are well worth having in my opinion. They are at the top of my favorite poker books.

I would also recommend at least Ray Zee's book on Omaha and 7 Stud H/L (one book). You should also read S&M's Stud for advanced players if you want to improve your stud game.

For just an enjoyable read I liked Jesse May's Shut Up and Deal book about his playing experiences in Atlantic City mainly.

Xaston,
Uh, what's the name of that book you like again? LOL!
You should just put that standard statement of yours, "Read the Theory of Poker again, Seriously" in your signature here so you don't have to type it out a million times. :D
I swear, in the just the last month alone I think I have seen you suggest that about 100 times and because of that I am probably going to buy that damn book!
I just hope it aint like the movie that your buddy raves to you about only to turn out to be a turd when you finally go see it. But seeing as who the author is, I doubt that will be the case.
Seriously, :D

I just finished reading a newly released book -

The Book of Bluffs: How to Bluff and win at Poker
by Matt Lessinger

It was a good read. It is all about bluffing, and has some theory in the beginning and then a bunch of examples of blufffs. It is mostly geared to live games but has a section at the end about bluffing online. I recommend reading it.
