What to do at a table with 8 rocks and a calling station?

Postby GooperMC » Thu Oct 27, 2005 7:36 am

I have been clearing a bonus at the party skins and the games are generally rockfest. Since I played a lot at party I know how to deal with a table of fish, and I have figured out how to deal with a table of rocks. However, when a calling station sits downs at a table of rocks I don't know what to do.

The calling station means that I can't steal as many uncontested pots, but I can't just wait for hands because there may not be anyone to pay me off. This problem is especially bad when the calling station has position on me.

How do you all handle this? Also Bri, have you started to lag at these tables or are you still playing tight?

I would actually get up and wait until I could get position on the calling station. I imagine that t would be worth the wait.

If you are gonna get heads up often with the calling station postflop, I just don't semi bluff as often. I wait for hands with a few more possibilties than normally. The CS will pay me off because he often has nothing that threatening.

I have been playing a little more lag postflop as I'm winning a lot of pots on the flop and I often still bet the turn because people don't want to pay the full price on the turn so I win a slightly better pot. The loosest bet i've made is 2 overcards and a gutshot straight draw into 3 people when I have position and I got everyone to fold. I've bet a wrap straight draw on a paired board against a really passive guy that I knew had the trips and I made a straight on the river. I've been taking a few more chances and often they pay off but it does hurt occasionally when they don't

i dont play much Omaha....but to deal with a bunch of rocks and 1 CS.....you just target the CS. the rocks will stay out of your way without a big hand. the CS will play with you frequently. so just start pushing a little harder on some more marginal hands (not bluffs)....hands that are weaker than the rocks' range but somewhat better than the CS's range.
