I was wondering if anyone could give me any thoughts on a move that I have seen described as the Doyle Brunson.

I'm not very knowledgeable on it so I'll kinda just take a stabe in the dark at describing it.

One situation might be where I'm in early position and I limp in with A5s and the flop comes 4 to a flush. I bet out 3/4 of the pot to try to take the pot down or potentilly build it. and I am raised like double or triple my bet. Then I reraise all in.

now I dont think this is a move you would do with like $500 in front of you but I always play short handed $100 max on Party skins. Any thoughts would be great

Brunson used to do that in the days of VERY deep stacks. Most player would be afraid to risk their entire stack, which might be 1000BB or more so that play worked very well (at least thats what Ive read)

In todays games with limited buy ins, it will rarely work. On Party with stacks of only 50BBs, its suicide. You'll get called much more often than Doyle did back in the day. Of course you'll probably win around 1 out of 3 times you get called depenidng on what the flop is and hwta you both have, but in the long run its a losing proposition.

That doesnt mean I would never do it, but I wouldnt make a habit of it.

The metods desribed by Doyle Brunson in super system are some of the most misunderstood in poker. I have seen a a bunch of people online call a raise heads up with suited connectors flop two pair and thank Doyle for his wisdom. These people completely misunderstood the book. This is very similar to what you are asking about. In most games if someone raises your flop bet 4x most likely they are going to be pot committed leaving only a very small chance that they will fold if you reraise all in. So lets looks at the odds. If you up against top pair (not an A) you have 12 outs, so you are looking at between 48%-40% chance to win the hand, this is assuming your ace is live. If they have AA you are on a simple flush draw 36% to win. If you are up against two pair or a set you are 26%- 36% chance to win the hand. Based on these odds I would not use this play all to often unless you are playing someone you think you can push off their hand. The only time I would make this play would be with AKs when i thought both my cards were live, or if I make top pair and the nut flush draw.
