I have been playing a little more stud lately and I am seeing ALOT of really loose passive players wanting to limp in with the bring in bet. The hell with that. If you are playing stud the name of the game should be aggression if you decide to get involved. Pummel them into submission with raises, check raises, reraises. I had players sitting out and leaving the table today because I was relentless on the raises and a biproduct of this is they check to you a whole bunch giving you chances to take free cards if you so desire. Knocking players out of the pot is extremely important in 7 stud as their dead money helps make up for the times when you are in with a slightly worse hand than your remaining opponent(s). Here are some examples from todays play. While looking over these recognize that I wasn't in there pounding with nothing all the time and everytime I was in regardless of if I had a pair I had very live cards. 7 stud is a game of aggression coupled with live cards, don't be in there pounding on guys on third street with an 27(A) and dead cards abounding from your hand. You don't need to wait for trips or high pocket pairs to start the raising but you better have some live cards and overcards to the likely pairs you are facing

I've been getting lucky a long time

That is one of the keys to stud. Have a good made hand or a live drawing hand going in against 1 or perhaps 2 people. In a high ante game this is the way it needs to be played in my opinion anyway. If you start with a good live hand with some solid outs you are never too far of a dog against any holding heads up with perhaps someone being rolled up as the exception. Yes I did catch what I needed but the key is the cards were available to catch In stud perhaps more so than any other game it is good to be feared a little bit, people know that when you are in a pot that it is probably going to cost them a shitload of bets to get involved so they get very timid unless they are starting with a very good hand. This works to your advantage as you are better able to steal antes which in a high ante game adds up quite nicely at the end of the session.
