Do you fold these 2 hands?

Postby legendary loser » Sat Jan 22, 2005 9:02 pm

Both are at a Party $50 NL

I have AK in MP. Stack of about $60. The villian has $300 or so.

there are 2 limpers including the villian UTG. I raise to $4 and UTG villian is the only caller. I had seen him limp with pocket pairs and was willing to call raises with them. He limped with 55 and called a raise with it the previous hand.

Flop: [Kh] [Qc] [4d]

It is checked to me and I bet $11 which is the pot. He re-raises me all in.

Another table

I am dealt AA in MP and raise to $3.5. It is called by one player. I have $60 and he has $65.

Flop [Kc] [Jc] [6s]

He check calls my bet of $8

Pot is $ about $22

Turn: [9c]
It is checked to me and I bet $12. He re-raises me to $45

I think in the first hand, you probably fold without more of a (post flop) read on the villain. If you've seen him do anything fishy (or slowplay big hands), then it's a call. On Party I might be tempted to call anyway (since the average player is so weak) ...

In the second hand, I think you're in trouble on the turn, since both flop and straight draws have just made it. Did you have the [Ac]? If so, I'd definitely have checked behind.

Not wild about the $12 turn bet either way, since it looks weak, reopens the betting, and gives odds to any straight/flush draws that have just emerged.

First hand is very opponent-specific. If you have seen him do this a lot with the goods, then fold. If he does it too often and you don't think he's got it, I call. Personally I can't see him making that move with 44, which is the only pocket pair that could have made a set here. Maybe he's got KQ, but I'm leaning towards a bluff with something like TT.

Second hand you should check behind on the turn. Keep the pot small there and don't give opponent a chance to checkraise. Get to a showdown as cheap as possible. Once raised it's an easy fold.

Hand #1
With no info on UTG on the first hand...I would call. (Party Poker moron factor) But next time try and get some notes before you get in those monster hands ;-)

Hand #2
I like the idea of checking that turn behind the player. I believe both Genius and Al are correct about keeping this pot small.

If you are going to bet...make it a strong bet. At least $18. That $12 bet after an $8 bet screams "I'm weak and scared, raise me." I myself normally check here because every draw has just hit, meaning you can be bluffed out of it. Also if you check you give yourself the chance to nut it on the river in position.
