Wherever he is. Where is he?

Nothing like a mod taking a powder. :)

2 and 3 table adjustment

Postby cardshark » Sun Nov 13, 2005 6:36 pm

Nash,

Any ideas as to how you would change this strategy for 2 and 3 table sng's?

Thanks!

Party $11 SNG result

Postby danjames » Wed Nov 16, 2005 5:50 am

Hi,
I've been following Nash's strategy and have the following results:

Played 20
1st 1
2nd 2
3rd 8
4th 1
5th+ 8

ROI% 23%
ITM% 55%

It's still very early days but so far things are looking OK. I've played a few SNG's and mostly limit $1/2 prior to coming across Nash's sticky and must admit that I always played on the tight side so the strategy appealed to me instantly. I love the fact that you might only see 2-3 flops and be pretty deep into the tourney. I 2 tabled last night for the first time and did well, hit my first 1st place. My major weakness is blind stealing and defending heads-up/three way. I tend to wait for premium cards to blind steal (A7o+ and mid-high pocket pairs) and I know I should open up my blind stealing hand list, any comments/suggestions greatly received As for defending I really will lay down most cards and generally re-raise with premium. I guess this is why I'm not turning my 3rd's into 2nd's and 2nd's into 1st's. I will always call the SB in round 1 only no matter what I hold, assuming it hasn't been raised, I feel I'm always getting odds for the call and if the flop hits me (really trips or better) I'll play aggro. The patience side of waiting for the premium hands does not bother me, I can easily fold any 2 cards. I use Poker Office/Poker Tracker to try and rate players, looking at VIP$, PFR%, First in Raise%. After around 20 hands I get a feel for the tightwads and LAG's. Does anyone use Autorate rules for SNG's? I will play around 100 SNG's before I consider moving up/down a level. I might take a look at other sites but the $11 SNG's at party seem loose enough, last night I played 6 and can't remember the BB getting above 300. Some players were calling all-ins with junk like J9o and suited connectors.

Cheers,
Dan

welcome to btp... great to see your first post!

indeed, the blind stealing will push a lot of those thirds higher. J7o is the "midway point" for hands, so you may wnat to think about getting aggro with those (or at least use that as a starting point) when you steal blinds. remember that they have to have a substantially better hand to call, usually they won't, and you'll still won't be too much of a dog unless they have an overpair (rare). usually they will have junk and they'll lay down.

I've been trying this strategy on poker room and the results don't seem to measure up to what other people are getting. Maybe it's just variance (123 so far) I am up money however the number of times my QQ runs into KK or my AK hits and I run into a set on an all in seems high. Poker tracker doesn't support tourney's on poker room so detailed stats aren't available. Every SNG goes into sng tracker so I know the stats I have are correct. ROI is now at 15% with 42% ITM 13% 1st 9% 2nd 20% third.

Or over all is this what I should expect. Also in stage 1 should you ever get all in preflop? If it's raise re raise then to you with QQ should you consider it or not? Normally I fold QQ or AK. Is that being to weak?

I'm assuming you're playing the lowest limits, 5 or so. If so, you're going to see a lot of strange hands played. (I got busted yesterday by Q5o in a 20+2.) Keep working at it. Results will come with more experience and time.

I rarely ever go all in, period. Ok, later in the tourney, I'll push a few hands in the right places to steal blinds, but I'm not expecting a call. I gotta think I've got the nuts to call an all in. Raise and then reraise and I start looking for any good reason at all to lay it down.

It's not an easy racket, by any means.

Thanks CJ,

I never thought it was an easy racket or we'd all be rich by now. It just seemed everyone who started this was boasting of win win win. I am more of a gambler than most so I'm not afraid to get my chips in the middle. I will get all in even early with AA or KK. I am learning to lay down the bigger hands tho. Chip leader this morning with JJ short stack goes all in for 500 (I have more almost 4K. I layed it down and watched the small blind with AA call his QQ. Most of my games are either 10's or 20's. I have played the odd higher one.

I did the prima rounders a few times but man the $550's that I won my way into have to be the toughest I ever played.
