Working off PokerStars bonus

Postby teknipper » Mon Dec 05, 2005 8:40 am

I have three more Pokerstars bonuses to work off and I am having trouble finding a good level Omaha / Omaha 8 Pot Limit game that consistently gets FPPs. It seems that some days the PL 50s do about 40-50% and some days they are 10%. Oddly, it seems the PL 100 games (Omaha 8) have the same variance in getting FPPs as the PL 50s.

What levels do othe BTPers play to work off the Stars bonus? I generally don't like limit but it seems like that might be the best option to finish off the three remaining $120 bonuses that I have stacked up.

Tom

On a side note to hijack my own thread before it starts: Last night I played 80 hands of Omaha Hi PL 50 to clear off the bonus. I won exactly ZERO hands and finished up the day $80. Now that is an odd stat line.

Tek, on UB I cleared my bonus playing 2/4 limit, it definitely earned points faster than the PL games. On Party I'll clear them playing limit as well, usually on the 6max tables. I don't recall if PS has a decent selection of 6 max or not, but if they do you'll get your points a lot faster there, and the play won't be all that good if it's anything like the Party and UB tables. Nut peddle for the most part and you'll be good. It's amazing how many people think 3rd nut low is worth calling all the way down with.

PS is slow for me too. I used to win pretty well at 100 and 200 plo & plo8 with the occasonal 50 or 400 game, but I had a horrific 1500-odd downswing over a month or two this year and havent played much since. I still have two bonuses to release there at some point too.

I've never played the limit o8 there but from what i've seen it doesn't appear too good. I think the party games are far better.

If you're not winning on the tables I wouldn't bother too much with the bonuses as they probably only release at the equivalent of a few bucks an hour. According to kuso's estimates the 50 buyins seem like a good bet, and they're also generally a lot weaker than the 100s and 200s in my (fairly limited) experience of them.

Thanks for the input guys. I have always had trouble finding a good table to work off the bonus and I can see that I am not the only one having trouble with it. I did find in my play that the PL 50 Omaha hi tables seemed to be the best at the low limit buyins that consistenly got FPPS, IF you got a couple of people at the table that PFRed.

btw, the 50s may be at 20pts/100.... data still inconclusive.

note that the time you play will yield vastly different results. i found that evening US was a bit more aggro PF, so lots of hands were contested HU or 3-way and were often finished before the $20 barrier was breached with an uncalled bet on the flop.

also note that the tables are MUCH tighter around the time a bonus hits and loosen up as time from the bonus increases.

I've been playing quite a bit of limit o8 on stars, anything between 2/4 and 5/10. When I finished clearing the bonus I had $1100 in my account ($600 deposited, $120 bonus, rest profit). The games are fairly easy to beat, but table selection is important, especially in the sh games. The full ring 5/10 games are a bit too tight for my taste. The 6-handed games can be juicy.

I've been playing the $200 PLO a bit as well, but I have trouble finding good games there. Especially annoying is the fact that often there will only be a few people with a full stack. The $100 PLO is often good, but high variance.
