MAINTENANCE FAILURE (ISP PROBLEMS) - WILL RESCHEDULE

Postby tetsuo » Wed Nov 17, 2004 4:10 pm

At 9am UK time this coming Saturday, the forum area will be unavailable for 2hr max (hopefully less).

I will attempt to carry out the following work.

* Migration of adverts into main forum section (list of forums, list of topics, list of posts)

* A refactorof the CSS (which controls site look and feel) into separate cacheable asset, leading to a substantial reduction is page size, meaning faster download and render times

* Apply an 'in reply to' patch (enables a type of intra topic threading)

* Apply a 'quick reply' patch (reply box appears at bottom of page, no click needed, just start typing)

* Apply an 'edited by' patch (posts show by whom and when any edits were made)

I will also be doing some unintrusive work on the main site, which will still be available.

The maintenance was aborted due to connectivity issues with my ISP which they aren't getting back to me on.

Their DNS servers are constantly going down, and my connections are being dropped intermittently (not good if you're trying to modify remote code).

I've just spent an hour wailing and gnashing my teeth - I'm giving up.

I'll try again in the near future :(
