Guess the hands for a free $5!!!

Postby kennyg » Sat Jan 29, 2005 11:29 pm

.50/1.00 NL Gaming Club $100 max buy-in
stacks- about $100 even

Opponent is a good tight player. Doesn't play as much as me, but when he does he usually wins.

Guess the hands correctly and i'll transfer you $5 thorugh pokerstars! I'm feeling frisky today what can i say? Only the first correct answer wins.

Suhleaf, Stapher, and Chetx13... you can't win since I told you about the hand already. Sorry!

Anyway. Folded to me UTG+2 I raise my standard with no limpers in front to $4. Only my opponent calls. He is in the BB.

FLOP $8.50
[6c][Kd][Kc]

Opponent checks. I bet $6. Opponent raises to make it $12, $6 to me. I call.

TURN $32.5
[6c][Kd][Kc][Jd]

Opponent leads for $14. I call.

RIVER $60.5
[6c][Kd][Kc][Jd][2h]

Opponent leads for $20. I move-all in for the rest of my chips. Think it was like $60 or $70. Opponent calls.

So what did we have?? :) Good luck!

Since the suits didn't matter for the outcome, I will only guess the suits.

He didn't play like a missed draw on the river, so he had a hand.
You told others about this hand, so it was distinctive in some way.

You also did not say whether you won, that makes this tricky.

My guess: You had: [Kh][Jh]
Your opponent had: [Ks][6s]

Edit: After having seen some other responses to this, it really shows that I have been playing microlimits. It is not unusual for some to be raising with the hands I guessed in the $20 max potlimit at Absolute.

interesting...well, before I try to get the answer, I will try and name some factors that would determine what the cards would be...
1) You posted this, and offering your own money...which means that you probably won...also, you told others about the hand, so it was either a really bad beat, or an awesome win...leaning toward awesome win.
2) Opponent is a tight player (from your description), was in the BB, and called your raise, which would mean he had to have some kind of hand. Also backed-up from the fact that he lead out with bets, as well as called your all in
3) river didn't help him
4) you only raised the "usual"

I'm gonna guess:
you: pocket 6's
him: AK

unless...you guys tied with KJ, but I know how much you LOVE KJ  haha

You: KK, Opponent: JJ

I'm assuming that this is one of those crazy hands, so no real logic behind my choices.

Kenny had KK. Other dude had 66. I'm pretty sure I'm right on this one.

All right kenny, I'll give this a shot.

I don't think you'd raise in EP with KJ and doubtfully w/ 66. I'm thinking AK or JJ (the AK just seems to obvious). I'll go with JJ and you went ahead and bet out the flop, but the min check raise wasn't enough to fold given he maybe just feeling you out. If he's a decent player the check raise seemed to obvious to you if he's got a K. You turned the Jack and just worked him from there.

I'll go with some K for him, but since he kept slowing down his betting I think he began questioning his kicker. I discount KJ because of his weak river bet into a $60+ pot which looks like a final value/blocking bet.

My guess (disregarding suits):
You... [Js] [Jh]
Oppnt... [Ks] [Qs]

I would've said KK (you) 66 (him) like MG, but since it's already gone :-( I'll say you both had AK just for the hell of it.

Going back to KK vs 66 (if that is the case) you've got the deck cripped, but my guess is that HE thinks he has the nuts and is just betting what he thinks you'll call and is scared of folding you out. Maybe on the river he's trying a weak lead hoping for you with a single K to come back over the top, or he has suddenly thought that KK is a possiibility and is angling for a cheap showdown. The trouble is that when you go all-in on the river, he might think that you thought that a lone K IS the best hand (precisely because of his weak lead, which he could think that you thought was a weaker hand, although I'm not sure what), so he has to call anyhow.

I look forward to finding out, anyway.

You KJ
Him: KJ
If you're gonna play trash, expect it to get taken out.

Congratulations Norton!!!

Not only did he exactly pinpoint my hand and my opponent's hand...he also posted it only an hour and 2 minutes after my intial post! That's talent if I've ever seen it!

But yeah I held KK and flopped quads on the flop AGAIN (3rd day in a row)..I led out trying to represent a missed AQ or something..he raised me on the flop with JJ, then hit his 2 out (and stack crippling) set of jacks on the turn.

So anyway norton...let me know what your name on Pokerstars is and I'll transfer you the $5. I was shocked how fast you came up with the answer...I didn't think anyone would get it!

I suppose this will go towards my bounty?? haha.

I may make this a monthly thing if I'm really bored. I had a lot of fun reading your answers.

WHAT?!?!?!?!??! I thought for sure I was right. I briefly considered JJ but couldn't really see a good tight player min checkraising that flop with JJ. Just doesn't seem like a good play.

Congrats to Norton. And Kenny, make it a daily thing. :D :D

Well, you mentioned you told 3 people about it, so I assumed you both had big hands and that your opponent played foolishly. Ice's answer would have been my second guess.

My PS name is 'Nortonesque'.

Maybe I can subsidize this bounty off of forum contests too :)
