Ok, here is yet another of Adam the Expert's successful students. I am going to tell you about him, because he reflects some important traits that are ESSENTIAL for winning poker.
Ever Since I taught him to play, back in 1989, Vending Machine Robert has made money every year. He is only a part time player, and doesn't have a great amount of talent. He also does not understand many advanced concepts, and is kind of cowardly.
But, he is GREAT at applying what he does know!! And this is what's important. Day after day, year after year, playing correctly inspite of boredom.
VMRobert, has one thing that makes him a winner: A burning desire to WIN, no matter what.
He will play FOREVER, to not leave a loser. (Ed note: ATE does not recommend doing this) I mean, he could be behind 75 bucks, and sit there for 12 hours, to eventually leave a winner. This is NOT what I would suggest, but it does show
THE ATTITUDE OF A WINNER!!
Man, this guy is UNREAL, is his quest to not be beaten!!!
Here is the ultimate VMRobert story:
A few nights ago, VMRobert called me from the Commerce Casino, in California. He had just cracked the bad beat jackpot in the 9-18 game.
Made $3600 smackers!! Now, ATE and most lazy people, would have taken off, and blown the money. But NOOOOOOO! Not Robert!! You see, inspite of this, he was SIXTY bucks behind in the game. This is 9-18 my friends, so that is only ONE STACK. Do you think he'd just take his good fortune, and leave? NOOOO Way!! He stayed, until he was able to leave the game a winner (other than the jackpot) Then the next day, he was grinding out a couple hundred, in online 2-4 hold em. He doesn't know how to put more money on his account, so he was playing a small game.
But, they guy built up 50 bucks that my friend transfered to him, into 550, in only a couple days of playing 2-4.
He does not get into giant games, inspite of having a big bankroll. He does not take time off, just because he won a lot. He does not EVER go on tilt. I MEAN NEVER!!
He can sit there, for 20 hours or more.
Also, remember that in the vending machine business, one usually has a range of a few days, that the machines can be done, without being empty.
So, he has the time, the patience and the BURNING DESIRE TO WIN, to pull it off.
He hates his business, and I'm trying to advise him to sell.
Ok, folks, hopefully this will encourage you. You don't have to play huge games, you don't have to be a master of the HYPER-ADVANCED Malmuth concepts.
You just have to do it, all day, every day. Play your best, and have a
BURNING DESIRE to win, and a STRONG WORK ETHIC.
hellIf VMRobert can make it, you can. Limited talent, limited GUTS, but MAXIMUM patience and MAXIMUM work ethic.
Hope you enjoyed this.
I am going to try my absolute best, to become a more "normal" person, and write only good poker
