Early in a MTT with JJ

Postby QWIKSNK » Fri Jan 06, 2006 4:17 pm

Here is a situation where i would have won the hand but elected to fold. If it were late in the tourney, I would have made the call here, I also was going to call the first all in, but someone else went all in also, showing a strong hand.

I figured this was a smart move early in a MTT

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t20 (9 handed)

MP2 (t945)
MP3 (t1460)
CO (t695)
Hero (t1125)
SB (t905)
BB (t670)
UTG (t2670)
UTG+1 (t1760)
MP1 (t590)

Preflop: Hero is Button with [Jd], [Jc].
7 folds.

Flop: (t30) [2d], [8d], [7s] (2 players)

Turn: (t30) [5c] (2 players)

River: (t30) [6s] (2 players)

Final Pot: t30

Results in white below:
MP1 has Qd Ad (high card, ace).
CO has As Kh (high card, ace).
Outcome: CO wins t30.

the converter messed up, but MP1 and CO both went all in in front of me preflop. with blinds still at 10/20, i think its an easy fold. correct? at best its a coinflip, at worst, im dominated.

I agree. No way would I get in the middle of this with anything short of AA. I would have (and have) folded KK in this situation.

yeah, you got to fold JJ and QQ there. KK is tough but the only hand i'm def calling with is AA obviously and probably KK. You might dominate one of them, but you are a coinflip to the other and have many cards to dodge. You might have to dodge Q, K and the A.

First post here and I know I am going to get a lot of grief for this, but if you have 2 short stacks all in before you and you fold JJ for 1/2 your stack or less you are going to have a hard time accumulating chips. In my book, given limited information available, I think this is an easy call.

Worst case scenario, you lose and you still have 600 chips to work with. You win and you have 2400 chips or so to work with. I think you take this chance most of the time, unless there are players yet to act behind you.

As long as I am posting, I will introduce myself. Some of you may recognize the name, I am a fairly accomplished low buy in tournament player, primarily on Full Tilt. I have won a number of tourns there and have done this as my primary source of income for a while now.

Anyway, I look forward to discussions here. I looked around some before I joined up, you guys seem to be relatively sane here.

As always, good luck

Welcome to BTP, clingfree!

I kinda know this guy. He has a few dollars of mine. Ok, maybe more than a few. :)
