$1/2NL at Stars

I am UTG+1 with KK. I make my standard raise to $10. Button ($183) calls and we're headsup. Button seemed loose with fairly weak postflop play.

Pot is $23. Flop comes [5s][3d][2c]. I bet $18. He calls. I put him on either a lower overpair or something like AT.

Pot is $59. Turn is [As]. I check. He bets $30. I call.

Pot is $119. River is [6d]. I check. He moves in for $123.

What the hell? He doesn't have the 4. So explain his bet to me.

You induced a bluff? He doesn't want you to see the showdown. He can't have anything too great, he made a bet that you can't call without the straight. If he had a set, I'd guess he'd make a value/blocking bet of some sort, being sort of scared of the check-raise. I think he's an idiot on a busted flush draw. You look like a calling station to me. I would have raised the turn, and if he called, made a small-ish value/blocking bet on the river... but that's just my take.

If he's got a four, then, wow... what an idiot.

talk about a shit turn card!

If it was me betting...you're screwed cuz I have either 44 or trips the way the hand was played..

I'm not sure about your river play...I would probably fold because I'm weak/tight. You may have induced a bluff....but damn...There is a lot beating you.

The only thing I can think of doing is betting the turn here a significant amount. Like $50. or $60. That way you're betting the scared card, looking like you're holding AK. I would fold to a raise....but I find it hard to believe he would move over top of that big bet without the winning hand.

Your hand has been demolished because you're out of position. Basically your ****ed every which way.

Flopmyflush

I didn't raise the turn because it puts me in a VERY tough position if called. Obviously if he pops back I can safely fold but the thing is he can smooth-call with WIDE range of hands, and then I still have to check-fold the river. The other problem is that he only has $123 left after betting $30. I hate min-raising in general but that's about my only option here since if I raise anymore I will be very pot-committed. He has to put me on a med-big pair and I don't know if he'd buy it if I suddenly switched up on the turn and represented AK.

Betting the turn crossed my mind, but my #1 goal at that point was to get to a cheap showdown, and making a big bet didn't really seem like the way to go. Also, I thought there was a good chance that he had 66-TT, and if I bet the turn he folds it, whereas if we check-check the turn and I value bet the river, I'm more likely to get called.

I think AA is a possible hand for him, maybe 44. His turn bet just tells my gut that he wants a call. His river bet I think is one of those moves that he wants to make look like a bluff but he knows he really has you. Also JJ and QQ are very possible as a bluff, he could know hes dead and trying to rep the A or straight. Its a tough spot but I feel like you fold here cuz i think your beat.

This a hand where being out of position cost you the hand. He could have QQ, JJ, 44, 55 or any number of other hands. You cant call.

My guess is he did have you beat but didn't like his kicker. Maybe AJ -A9 didnt want to see a showdown, thought he could make you laydown AK with a gross ovebet. Either way you have to fold. I seriously doubt he is playing AA or 44. If he did he is a really weak player. If he has a set, he has you beat there is no way you raised with 4/6 and its very unlikely you raised with a small pp and hit a set. The only way he could get sucked out with his set of A's is of you are playing AK and catch a straight to split on the river. I stick with my A weak kicker and you got outdraw.

So this is my 300th post in under 2 months man I need a life.

This is probably a stupid question, but why is this player weak/an idiot if he is playing 44? (I'm asking because I think I would play 44 like he played the hand...)

I disagree Rhound. I would make that big of a bet against a good player like MG...expectiing him to pay me off cuz it looks like a bluff.

Thats interesting Kenny, because from my viewpoint. If I am in Mg's shoes, I dont call that bet with anything other than a straight or a set. Yes it could be a bluff but that bet is also often a bad player getting overly excited making a big hand. I fold and chalk that one up in the memory banks that he likes to overbet the pot and add him to the great player to trap with a big hand list.
