I am in LP with 789T rainbow. EP min raises, there are 5 callers who see a flop of 28J rainbow. Everyone checks, and I take a free card, since checkraising is popular at this table.

Turn: Q, but there are two clubs on the board, and I have no clubs. Opponent in EP bets $1. There are a couple of callers, and I raise the max, to about $10. EP calls, rest folds. I'm mostly afraid that he has the same straight but with a backdoor flush draw.

River: another J, no club. Opponent goes allin for about $9. Do you call?

Outcome: opponent had QQxx and has a boat.

If you felt he did have the straight with the flush redraw - then I would call the river without a question- accepting of the possibility that he's got the boat. If I felt he had the boat - I'd probably fold.

First of all, in LP - I would bet with your large wrap mostly because it is vulnerable. You want people out who just have the outside straight draw - you also want fewer people in to draw to their backdoor flushes. Lastly, this should help in figuring out if you are up against a set. Checkraising may be popular, but it should give an indication as to your opponent's hand - and since there's not much in the pot right now - it won't cost you as much.

All in all though, calling the river here is a tough one. If you think he's got the straight - you are splitting; if he's got the boat - you get nothing. There's about $30 in the pot right now, and the bet is $9 to you. Even if you are right half of the time - you are looking at risking $9 to win $20. I would suspect however, given his small bet on the turn (and flat call) that he's got the set and is simply fishing. If he did have the same straight with the flush draw - he should pop you on the turn - because there's no guarantee that you will pay him off if the flush hits.
