Guess the hand, and what would you do?

Postby t-bone » Mon Feb 07, 2005 6:10 pm

Live $1/$2 PL game with 9 players. I sat down and bought in for $80, and about 6 hands in I call a $6 raise preflop in the BB after 3 others call. I had 66 and flopped a set, and took the pot down on the flop, and showed my hand (something I do very rarely, but decided to this time to give myself a tight aggressive image) so my immediate image at the table was probably pretty good.

A couple hands later I'm at about $100, and I get KK OTB. 1 EP limper, I raise to $10, SB calls, limper folds. As far as I can tell, the SB is a pretty tight player, I heard another guy whom I have played with lots before comment on how tight he was.

Anyways, $25 pot. Flop comes Q93 rainbow. He bets $25 without much hesitation. What do you do?

Theres only one good reason to buy in short. Its to double up. You dont play suited connectors or other drawing hands. You play KK and you play it hard.

Raise all in! If he has a set, he has a set. If you were deeper, it would be a different story.

Iceman is right on here, if he has AA and smooth called your raise or called with QQ that life and you rebuy but more likely than not you are way ahead here. I have seen so many people play AQ just like this that I would be more likely to put him on AQ than a set.

I admit I don't play PL much...but you can raise to $10 with only one EP limper?

I agree with everyone before me. Buy -in for more...and reraise that bet on the flop unless you can get some great read on him that suggests an incredibly strong hand..

If your opponent has a set...I love his play.

I would commit my chips here as well, as AQ could be a definite possibity.

Yep, max I have your raising here with one limpers is $9($1 SB + $2 BB + $2 EP Limp + your $2 call)= $7 raise which means nine. Did I do that right...want to host a PL Omaha tourney and see how it goes.

If there was another EP limper, math works out good though...maybe you missed one.

I raise pot to $75, effectively putting you all in(only $15 left). He might be on a draw as well w/ JT which seems a popular hand in PL. Hope it worked out for you.

$1 sb + $2 bb + 1 EP limper ($2) = $5 pot (SB counts as a completed bet if you're open-raising), so if you open raise in a $1/$2 PL game it's to $8, 1 limper = $10.

The biggest stack at the table at the time was my little brother who had $140 in front of him. The guy I was in the hand with had anout the same amount as I did to start the hand. $80 buyin is average for this game.

He had AA and i reached into my pocket and grabbed another $100.

Yeah, that's pretty normal. Online they usually won't count the SB as a full bet, though the rake is not taken from the hand until the end so at most sites that does not diminish the size of the pot bet.

In B&M games, except perhaps preflop, it's often unusual to bet the FULL pot because it takes time for the dealer to count it out in many cases, and may reveal something about your hand if you insist on doing so. Often in PLO games, for instance, the bet is about 80-90% of the pot, which is easier and quicker to count out and yet doesn't really give anything away about your hand, or offer much better odds to drawing hands than 100% of the pot.

Cool, thanks for the info. I know I am off topic, but I guess I don't understand why it is easier to raise 80%-90% than the whole pot. Do people usually bet the amount on the table as their raise to make sure they do it quickly and accurately? I am assuming that is where the 80-90% comes from.
