2 Interpoker $100NL hands

Postby DODGYKEN » Wed Feb 16, 2005 2:15 pm

Hand 1:

I'm in EP with $131 and get Ah 6h 7s Ad. 2 limpers to me, I limp, 3 limpers after me, and the button raises all-in to $9. Blinds fold, UTG calls (he has $700ish), I call and an MP calls (who has $47 left).

3 (and 1 all-in) see the flop of 8d 2h 5h. This is a great flop for me. The top overpair with nut flush draw and a straight draw. I wanted to play it strong but I wasn't sure if that was the correct play as there was an all-in player. Still, I bet pot of $40.50 when it was checked to me. The MP called and UTG folded.

Turn is the 3d. MP only has $7 left so I put him all-in.

How do you think I played this hand?

Hand 2:

I'm in MP with $91 and get Tc Qc Td Qh. One limper to me, I raise to $5 (there was a LP poster), CO and button call, EP re-raises all-in to $11. I call and the CO and button do too.

Flop is 8d 4c 9c. I don't think there's any way I can bet this so I check. CO bets $36 (he has me covered) and button and I fold.
Standard play?

Comments on these hands would be appreciated. I'll post the results soon.

I like your play on the first hand. With the stacks the way they were and the draws you had, those short stacks were either gonna play for their stacks or fold early.

Second hand, I probably would have limped preflop, but I'm more on the passive side preflop. I'm not a huge fan of double paired, 1 gapped, double suited by not nut, hands (can I get more specific with that descriptions? ) but I don't think the preflop raise was that bad. Its a hand I would really like to see a flop with but you have a gut shot, 2 overpairs (that even if you trip, won't give you the nuts because of the straight draw it makes) and a Queen high flush draw. I would be leaning towards a check and then fold to a real bet (which the CO did). I would hope for a smaller bet to let me catch but all the flop did was give you a bunch of weak draws. Another option would be about 1/2 to 2/3 pot bet to find out where you are but this seems likely to be raised and a full pot bet would be too much money to commit to such a hand.

Hand 1 you played perfectly. I would consider making a big re-raise preflop after the initial raiser if you're confident you can take it down or gain position. Calling is fine too because re-raising gives your hand away.

Hand 2 you played fine. There are many better spots to risk your money. I like raising with two premium pairs preflop, it's an underrated hand.

Both played perfectly IMO.

I thought about re-raising on hand 1. I was concerned that it wouldn't get rid of the UTG stack that had me covered so I decided to call. I've started raising with hands like hand 2; I think that a decent amount of my profit comes form hitting a high set, so I like to maximise my win if this happens.

On hand 1, the river was a blank and my opponents 85 held up. Hand 2 annoyed me cuz the bettor ended up winning with 77xx (no draws) and I couldn't understand how he could bet that. I think a check-fold is correct most of the time in that spot however.
