Play AA? You Decide!!

Postby Kidoubled » Wed Mar 01, 2006 10:29 am

Hello everyone,

I've got around 150 sitngo's under my belt and still have a lot to learn! I would like to hear from all the great BTP players out there on how you would play this hand.. Most of these players had played Tight preflop to this point except for the player in Seat 5 who had shown down and won with some weak starting hands..Hopefully this is enough information as this is one of my 1st posts here. All opinions are welcome & appreciated..! I will post the results later...

I haven't done the math, but I'm fairly sure calling OR pushing all in here is correct. Had you had a HUGE stack, and another HUGE stack was all in, and there were 3 very small stacks also all in, there MAY be a case for folding here, i'm not entire sure myself but to the best of my knowledge i do believe there are certain situations in which folding AA preflop in a S&G is correct, but i don't think this is one of them.

Edit: I just realised how wrong my logic is here. Clearly the bigger your stack, the more you want to call. The lower your stack, the more possibility there is that folding could be correct.

You can't even give folding a thought.

So semi loose player goes all in and another player knows this and calls with his group 1 hand.
You got the best hand and still big favourite unless other guy has AA too.
Last weak i called QQ against two all ins hoping they both had AK. They held AA and I found my Q.

Really you can't ever fold AA preflop in a SNG. There is no situation in a SNG where I would fold it. In MTT's there are some rare situations that you would.

Tom.

Folding AA pre-flop, with the exception of on the bubble in a satelite where the top x finishers all receive the same prize, is never correct. It can't be. Push.

What if hero has 25 chips and the other 3 all have 4.5k chips each, they all go all in, should you call with AA? Assume this is a $10 + $1 SNG.

Let's assume you're up against AK, KK and QQ. You will win ~ 69% of the time, and be in 2nd place with 100 chips, presumeably against the person with KK who now has 13,400 chips. Calling means that 69% of the time you win at least $30. If you fold, 99.31% of the time you will win $30. Presumably you will have a slightly bigger chance at coming 1st if you had 100 chips rather than just 25, but i don't think the difference in that matches the difference in coming 4th and getting nothing 31% of the time compared to coming 2nd over 99% of the time. I'm sure someone could do the relevent ICM calculations to prove this, i simply don't have the math skills/know how to be able to do it :P

Edit: And if one of them has TJs rather AK, you're only slightly better than 50% to win.

So there's a huge pot, you have the best hand possible, the blinds are 300/600, and you only have 1600 chips? This is a clear all-in. It doesn't matter if you lost this one time, you still should always go all-in in this situation. Calling makes no sense since you'd only have 300 chips left.

Drumroll puhhhlease.......

Here are the results...

HERO raises (1360) to 1660
HERO is all-In.
big_dithy calls (1060)
Ty_Webb5150 folds.
SPEER312 calls (340)
Creating Main Pot with $6600 with robertodubya
Creating Side Pot 1 with $1020 with HERO
** Dealing Flop ** : [ 9c, 8h, 6c ]
big_dithy bets (600)
SPEER312 calls (350)
SPEER312 is all-In.
** Dealing Turn ** : [ 7c ]
** Dealing River ** : [ Ts ]
Creating Side Pot 2 with $700 with SPEER312
** Summary **
Main Pot: 6600 | Side Pot 1: 1020 | Side Pot 2: 700 | Side Pot 3: 250
Board: [ 9c 8h 6c 7c Ts ]

HERO balance 340, bet 1660, collected 340, lost -1320 [ As Ah ] [ a straight, six to ten -- Ts,9c,8h,7c,6c ]
big_dithy balance 8010, bet 2260, collected 940, lost -1320 [ Ac 3s ] [ a straight, six to ten -- Ts,9c,8h,7c,6c ]
robertodubya balance 6600, bet 1320, collected 6600, net +5280 [ Kc 8c ] [ a flush, king high -- Kc,9c,8c,7c,6c ]
Ty_Webb5150 balance 4360, lost 1320 (folded)
SPEER312 balance 690, bet 2010, collected 690, lost -1320 [ Tc Td ] [ a straight, six to ten -- Tc,9c,8h,7c,6c ]

With so many two people before me calling the 1320 raise by the small stack it made me hesitate and think twice about going all in.. I figured the short stack was in desperation mode since the blinds were about to hit him and that the call by Ty_webb was a weak play (he could have almost anything in this spot) based on my read on him. I wasn't sure what SPEER had but it had to be strong for him to risk over half his stack. I figured I was an underdog against so many hands even with the pocket rockets and I was not thrilled when big_dithy called behind me too!! I figured I was a 3:1 dog..at best. Don't ask me for the math on this, its just what I estimated! I really don't care about busting out of this Sitngo, I just want to know if I made the right play.. the odds will take care of the rest eventually!! I appreciate all your input...

Can anyone tell me what the odds are for AA against 4 random hands preflop??

I don't know what the odds are against 4 random hands, but in this situation you were about 60% favourite to win. A3 would win 5% of the tim, K8 15% of the time and TT 20% of the time.
