Derk, you're wrong: there are a large class of credit cards that have fees: they're usually points, platinum, or 'miles' cards, or cards that you can pay to have a lower interest rate. A high limit on your card does NOT send up flags...and it's not as easy as making a phone call and them just doing it...they don't raise your limit unless you make enough (or at least you tell them that you do) to cover it. If you make less than 30k/year, they won't raise it to 10k. It's VERY rare for them to offer a 10k limit right off, unless they're replacing one you already have, or through the same company.
