can i take the risk of not raising here ?

Postby euri10 » Thu Feb 17, 2005 6:53 am

obviously when the board pairs you have to say u can't take the risk...
but I think here what saved me is my position...

against the guy who called me I'm a big favorite on the flop

As 7s Jc Td 294 35.85 36 4.39 490 59.76 0.657

but let's say that the guy who folded to my raise had a set of 8, and I think he had that hand. What kind of set would you play here 88AK, 88AQ or something.. ?
let's run 2dimes again, that's terrific how close to me he's now...

with the top set and a backdoor flush draw he's ahed of me by 2% !

You should always raise here IMO. Can't give a free card to a set, and against a straight you have your nice redraw to make a higher one (which you hit).

It is of no concern whatsoever that your opponent might have had a set (the guy who folded) because you're winning over 40% of the chips in a three-handed battle, so you obviously want to play for your stack regardless. Also, if he has a set, you want rid of him, and to play for a completely safe freeroll with the other guy! Don't give free cards unless there's a reason for doing so. With your redraw here I'd still raise it even with a flush draw out.

If you have no redraw I would be rather inclined to consider folding if the board is showing a flush draw. If not, raise anyway on the off-chance he has raised with a set.

raise the flop, but in my experience, many of the people with sets still call.
