Another lackluster performance on my part, sorry to say tonight. I lost $5.06, most of it due to bad play. I open-raised with A10, and again called a PF raise with AQ. I'm revising my starting requirements to stop calling raises with AQ and regarding A10, I'm only going to limp in LP and fold to any aggression if an A comes on the flop. Hit a couple of big hands (top trips and flopped nut flush), but couldn't get paid off on either once again.

Sets 0-9
AA: 1, opened on the button and the blinds folded
KK: 0
QQ: 2

Tables played: 2 full ring
Time played: 2 hours
Profit for day: ($5.06)
Bankroll as of 3/8/06: $351.24

Countdown to $25 NL: $148.76

THURSDAY, MARCH 9, 2006

Wierd session tonight - I broke EXACTLY even, to the penny! Though the hands I lost I feel were well played - the biggest hand of note came when I flopped a set of tens on a 10 A Q board, but the PF raises were over-sized, and there were two of them. I open-bet the pot, MP raised me, and the button pushed. I shook my head, laughed, and laid down my three tens. Turns out my read was correct (well sort of) - the winner flopped the nut straight with KJ. I read one or both for a bigger pair (queens was very possible as well). In case anyone actually reads this rag of a journal  , I would not have filled up on the turn or river had I called. Good laydown anyone?

Sets 1-10 (see above)
AA: 3 - very modest action only - won twice PF and once on the flop
KK: 1
QQ: 0

Tables played: 2 full ring
Time played: 1.2 hours
Profit for day: $0.00
Bankroll as of 3/9/06: $351.24

Hey Runner Runner,

You have been here long enough - I would recommend moving up to 25 tables whenever you have a $25 stack on the tens. You know what you are doing now. You can crush the 25 dollar game.

This way you get to taste some higher tables but really only lose $10 not of BR, not a full 25. Keep at it. You'll get there. After spending a BUNCH of time at the $25's, I am now at the 50's and quite comfortable at the 100's

I think he is trying to do it systematically, much in the same way woody sets his roll goal and then does not move up until he has hit it. He may be costing himself in the short term, but by the time he gets there, he will be solid.

I expect RR to grind through the 10s and 25s and then blow through the 50s and 100s in about 3 weeks.

Keep it up.

Won $8.18 tonight. Played for quite awhile tonight - 4 1/2 hours. Felt good to actually leave work at a decent hour and get some playing time in. Probably won't play tomorrow since I have to work and I'm actually going to see my friends for once, so felt justified in getting some extra hands in tonight. Good play, but not great, on my part. I think i'm overbetting my bigger hands - I've got to learn to adjust to the weak-tight games that are rampant at UB. A couple of mistakes - paid off a couple of flush draws that hit, but with small bets only thank god.

Sets 4-21
AA: 1
KK: 2
QQ: 2, including a flopped top set (not included in the 4-21 above, I only count 22-JJ above)

Tables played: 2 full ring
Time played: 4.5 hours
Profit for day: $8.18
Bankroll as of 3/10/06: $359.42

Countdown to $25 NL: $140.58

Hey RR keep grinding, you are learning the game well. It wont be long til you are playing the $100 or $200 games. You remind me of Kent atleast when it comes to poker. When he first started posting here he was playing the $10NL games and lower and then before you know it he is at my table at the $100 games on bodog.

A suggestion from personal experiance. When you move up to $25 games juat play those games, dont bounce back and forth. You need to get used to playing for $25 stacks, $10 to $25 games is a pretty big jump since it is the only game where you are playing for more than double than the previous limit. It will take a little gettign used to, thought it wont take long til you start to realize that the $25 players are just as bad as the $10 games but with more money to donate to you .

SATURDAY, MARCH 11, 2006

Won $3.39 tonight. I came home from downtown Boston and decided to play a few hands before I went to sleep. Nothing real interesting, flopped an underfull with 44 heads up. I open bet the pot, opponent raised, I reraised, opponent folded. Other than that, pretty much card dead, though I did steal a couple with middle pair vs. a couple of weak tight opponets who folded to my raise on the flop - one even showed me top pair before he laid down.

Sets 1-4 (see above)
AA: 0

QQ: 0

SUNDAY, MARCH 12, 2006

Won $7.63 today. And what a crazy day it was! The cards were very good to me today (see stats below). Alas, I could have easily won $30 or more today hadn't it been for a couple of freak holdings that more or less negated my big wins. All in all, a true grinder's day - won a lot, lost a lot, and came out on top. I'm starting to experiment with a bit more aggression post-flop vs. many of the weak-tight opponents UB has been offering me lately. I also played the no-max buy-in table today (I only bought in with the $10 standard, but most everyone had big stacks, thus I got great implied odds for my PP's, etc.)

Sets 5-21
AA: 9 (got killed twice, but stacked two people as well)
KK: 5
QQ: 4 (including one hand when I flopped QUADS, but didn't get much action)

Tables played: 2 full ring
Time played: 5.5 hours
Profit for day: $7.63
Bankroll as of 3/12/06: $370.44

Countdown to $25 NL: $129.56

WEEK ENDING MARCH 12, 2006

Another interesting week of poker. Tried to play a little each day, and I did. This was the first week that I've included daily summaries in my journal, and I think I'm going to continue to do so. While I'm winning for sure and counting down the days until my bankroll reaches $500 so I can leave the rock garden known as UB (and go to Party so i can beat up on the $25 donks - I'll probably stay with Party through $50 or $100 and after that try to find a site with less sharks), I really wish my PTBB/100 were better in comparison to my $2 NL numbers. There is definately a noticble jump in skill between $2 and $10. Though, a partial retraction - I've made some adjustments in the last week or so and my hourly rate has improved over that period of time.

2 tables
7 days play

Net profit for week: $21.40

Bankroll as of 3/12/06: $370.44

Emoticon of the Week: :)

MONDAY, MARCH 13, 2006

Won $5.39 today. Only played for a bit over an hour, and was for the most part extremely card dead. As a matter of fact, at one table, I didn't play one single hand outside of the blinds. Not one! Oh well, if you look at yesterday's stats re: PP's and sets, I'm due for some slow sessions. I made the most of my one good hand - I raised with an OESD on the flop, got 3 callers (uh-oh), but lo' and behold, made my straight on the turn and got paid to the river by someone with two pair. Of course I was prepared to slow way down hadn't I hit my draw on the turn. Note to self: Be aggressive with your draws on occassion, but don't go ape shit with it either.

Sets 0-1
AA: 0
KK: 0
QQ: 0

Tables played: 2 full ring

TUESDAY, MARCH 14, 2006

Won $10.24 tonight. Stacked two people on two separate KK hands, and stacked three people for a win of $15 or so when I hit a set of twos. Lost a bunch (about $9) to some bozo that decided to call to the river with his gutshot and made it on the end. But overall, I thought I played pretty well and am continuing to experience success with being aggressive in the right spots. Two weeks ago, I would have found myself check-folding when I could have raised to win the pot, which I am doing well lately IMO.

UB is offering a 100% bonus, which I will be taking advantage of, since my current bonus is almost gone...if I make my $500 goal before clearing it, I'll probably delay my transistion back to Party, as Party hasn't thrown me a bone in ages. :x

Sets 2-14
AA: 1 (folded to my raise PF)
KK: 2 (see above :D )
QQ: 0

Tables played: 2 full ring
Time played: 2.1 hours
Profit for day: $ 10.24
Bankroll as of 3/14/06: $386.07

Countdown to $25 NL: $113.93

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15, 2006

Won $19.96 tonight. Started out the session with some solid aggressive raises and took down a few cheap ones, then rasied an OESD that got there and got paid on that as well. Made one blunder tonight - went too far with K7 in the BB and ended paying off a short stack vs. his flopped full house (about $4), but other than that played pretty well. Went on a tear late and stacked two guys in 2 consecutive hands. I also tried limp-reraising with AA UTG tonight - I've decided to discontinue that for the time being - at my game, the tables are way too weak-tight for a guranteed raise PF. I did manage to dump them when I was beaten, however.

Sets 1-15
AA: 3
KK: 2
QQ: 2

Tables played: 2 full ring
Time played: 3.3 hours
Profit for day: $ 19.96
Bankroll as of 3/15/06: $406.03 (Broke the $400 barrier - woooo hoooo!)

Countdown to $25 NL: $93.97
