Blinds are 100/200
I have about 2600 chips on the BTN
SB has about 2200 chips after posting
I pick up on the BTN and raise to 500, seeing people often fold to this 2.5x BB raise.
SB has been a bit too tight short-handed. He min-raises to 800 (don't ask me how it's not even 2x) and I call. I figure he's very likely to have AA here and I will have to play any flop cautiously.
Flop:
SB checks to me, making me think he either doesn't like all those hearts, or wants to get all my chips. In the actual hand, I pushed all-in here. In retrospect, I don't see why I should push. I have a lot of likely outs (including a backdoor straight draw) and it's VERY likely he isn't going anywhere given my read. Here's how I think I should have played the hand:
Check behind on the flop. If he pushes on the turn, I pretty much have to call unless I know he has a set already. If I hit a Q, K, or heart, on the turn, I'm pushing all-in to any check, otherwise I check behind again and hope to check behind unimproved on river. If he really checked the flop and turn, I'd start doubting he has KK or AA and call any river bet. He probably would want to push me off any draws on a board like that. Maybe he'd check the flop once, regret it, and then push the turn.
What's your line?
