$5, $10, $20 and $30 SnGs. Is there a general concensus...

on the different skill levels at these buy-ins? I've been playing quite a few SnG single-table tourneys at Paradise lately, and I've played almost exclusively $20+2 for the last 22 tournies. There are actually two $11s and two $33s in there, but it does average out to $22 for my last 22.

Anyway, I didn't play a whole lot of the $11 ones, but I think I like the play at the $22 ones quite a bit more. Perhaps I'm more patient with $22 out there as opposed to $11, but I think I've fared fairly well in the $22 games. In those 18 $22 games I have:

1st) 6 times.
2nd) 2 times.
3rd) 3 times.

So I'm getting ITM about 60% over my admittedly small sample, and I'm not sure how to figure out ROI (or even what it stands for). Eighteen $22 buyins is $396 and the payouts is $840. I know I'm not going to make a habit of doubling my money, and I know I'm not going to win a third of the games I play, but I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed a similar result with $22 versus $11 SnGs. Thanks for any input.

BTW, what is ROI, and how do you figure it?

ROI is Return On Investment
Think of it as return / over/ investment to calculate it: divide the return by the investment.
If you make more money than you spent, the ROI is over 100%
In your case the ROI is 840/396 is 212.12%
Very nice, by the way.
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

As to how the various levels of S&Gs compare, the answer is, IT DEPENDS!
In general, the higher the buy-in the tougher the competition but there are other variables. For example, when you compare a $20 S&G on Party Poker with one on say, Poker Stars, most people would agree that the competition on Poker Stars is tougher and would be reflected in the comparison. Another variable is time of day/night. The players on a Tuesday afternoon will tend to be tighter than those on a Saturday night.
Once we know this the question is how do you take advantage of it? Since most of your winnings will be the result of other people's mistakes rather than brilliant play on your part to me its a no-brainer to seek out the weakest competition available. It is also important to recogize the prevailing style of play. I am not saying become a rock during the day and become a maniac at night but instead be prepared to deal with each in turn.

So an ROI of around 50% is pretty much a best-case scenario. That's good to know. I know my sample is way too small and I've been running way to well to put any stock in these numbers. I'm up to 25 games, and my ROI is already down to around 70% (1 second, 1 third, and five ungoods in my last seven games). I knew my results were better than they should be (I got sucked out almost zilch for about 10 games in a row), and they're already correcting themselves, it seems :(

Anyway, thanks for all the input. It helps a lot.

My sample size is now pushing 500 SNGs. Don't draw conclusions about my current bankroll though -- I have had several unsuccessful experiments in other poker relms, particularly losing alot at the MTTs over a smallish sample.

I'm sure that I've made mistakes many times over the 500 SNGs, so I think that 55% at least is possible in a practical way, and that theoretically 60% would definitely be possible for a perfect poker player (but then why would you play $10+1 SNGs).

I'm quite happy with my 52%, and I haven't changed the way I play $10+1s in a very long time.
