I have [2d] and raise to 1000, he calls

Flop: [9s][6c]

He leads out with a bet of 600. I call.

Turn: (pot is around 3000 now)

He bets out 1000 and only has 2800 chips remaining after the bet. Should I push all-in or just call? I have flush outs (9), deuce outs (2) and likely A outs (3), or close to 14 outs which makes me nearly 30% to improve on the river.

I opted to call and here's why: I don't think there's much of a chance he's folding after committing so much of his stack in the pot, and I do not believe my bottom pair would be good here. He probably has a middle pocket pair (sevens?) or some suited connector that's paired up or has an OESD. If I didn't improve on the river, I wouldn't call the likely all-in 2800 bet on the river.

Well played. I read him for pairing the board, too. He's not going anywhere. You either bust him on the river, or play the next hand still with a lot of chips.

An aside...this kind of hand is the reason I don't care for pushbotting. If you push PF, you probably run him out and it's probably a +EV play. However, as you have position--given up when you go all in--you can play post-flop and have a better chance of bustin him, at the very worst. If you can play post-flop, and you better be able to if you want to move up in limits, then you don't push even if it's +cEV to do so. Know how, yes, but temper it with the situation. Just my humble opinion.

I only do push potting when the blinds are so high relative to chip stacks that raising any less would force you to call the all-in re-raise. If he only had 3k chips, I would have just pushed PF. Instead he had a little more than 4k chips, which gives us a chance for a little post-flop play.

BTW, I paired my A on the river in this hand. He bet out half his remaining stack, I raised him in the rest, and he called. I take down the pot and the 1st place. I never saw what he had, and PokerRoom tournament hand histories aren't saved anywhere (that I know of).
