if russian had 2 pair, then the bet was a no brainer. actually, i'm certain that he DIDN'T have 2pr, as he'd have to have the same hand as the winner (nut low + 2pr) and they would split. so, at best, russian had pair (i would bet with this), but i think he had air.

i'm not asking about what to do with a nut low and any high -- frankly, i think these are pretty easy to play. i'm wondering why russian made the bet assuming he had NO high and the nut low (i'm fairly certain that this was the case).

well, he can't be sure that the other guy acutally has the nut low... he may think he's freerolling. given how much these players pimp lows, though, and given how uncoordinated the board was (sorry, can't remember the cards), the made low seemed obvious to me. in fact, my thought on that bet was "someone's getting quartered" -- i was just surprised when it was the russian i can't imagine someone (e.g., the non-russian) putting lots of chips in a HU pot on a low board with just a decent high and no decent low.

anyway, i'd really like to know the ratio of how often he takes that down versus how often he gets quartered. again, it COULD be the case that his bet is a pure freeroll -- that is, that bet is being made no matter what, so ANY fold is pure profit, and any quartering was going to happen anyway (this is not necessarily true if non-russian also has a nut low with no high). seems iffy to me.

if the river was a scare card like a flush card or a card that paired the board, i love the play.


fwiw, i assumed that they would have to have the same two pair based on my vague recollections of the cards i saw. of course, russian COULD have had a different two pair and the nut low, but i am 99% sure that wasn't the case.

This is straight up standard good play by both. The nut low + pair guy should be betting that flop, the Russian should at least call, I personally would raise and try to get everything in there with the flush draw. On the turn, obv the two pair should be betting, and the flush draw + nut low is correct to call. When the river gives the Russian top pair, he's definitely correct to lead for the max. Two good hands, relatively well played.
