WSOP satelite- 2nd hand

So I play 4 hours for a WSOP qualifier and finish 2nd out of 353 people, with top 4 getting a seat into the satelite. Well i sit down to play the satelite and the 2nd hand of the tourney..........

blinds 20/40

im dealt Kc 10s on the CO and call the blind, SB raises to 80, BB calls, Hero calls.

flop: K-10-9 rainbow.....SB bets 100, BB folds, Hero raises to 200, SB raises to 1000, Hero raises all in, SB calls.

Turn: brick
River: A

SB shows Q J

First of all what a waste of time it felt like because i lasted a whole 8 mins in the satelite, although i did feel good about placing 2nd in the qualifier. Regardless it felt like nothing after all that. What is your thoughts on how i played that, and should i have known that he obviously had me beat when he raised twice, and knowing it was beginning of a big tournament to just fold and wait for a better spot?

Before you look below, try to answer this question.....

What were you trying to accomplish with your raise? I'm not being an ass. It's a serious question you should have asked yourself. When you answer that question you'll probably have your answer to your question.





















That's just a wierd raise there so I'd be very cautious. I see people do that all the time, they are not scaring anyone away, but I don't know if they realize that. Some players are that dumb. KTo scary hand, but maybe playable there. Good flop, but scary again. I probably would have had to fold to his AI because I know nothing about him, but that min-raise makes me think he's an idiot and that could mean a lot of hands like QJ. You raised to see where he was at, he told you, but you still called. Tough hand, but I think I get away having lost only 280. If I call that raise it's because I'm tilting which is really no excuse, but you shouldn't have been tilting just a few hands in.

This is going to sound harsh probably but.. Fold preflop. It takes a player with a lot of skill in post-flop play to be able to open-limp in LP with very marginal holdings (and KTo is about as marginal as it gets) and make it a profitable move. Your minraise on the flop basically tells me that you're not at the level you need to be to be playing this loose so early on, a solid TAG strategy should and will put you ahead of 90% of the competition anyway.

As played, I think you have to call the minraise preflop as you're getting 5:1 but i'd prefer to even re-raise here. Minraises in general mean marginal holdings (Ax or KJ/QJ type hands) and you might get him to fold here, if not, he'll fold to your CB unless he hits.

On the flop i'd re-raise to 300 - 400 and see what he does then, but i doubt i'm folding this hand anyway. One thing you did fail to mention though was stack sizes but i'm assuming you're both average stacks here, your hand is way ahead of the range of the average player who will think his AK or KQ is good here, you're also ahead of any other 2 pair hand and the fact you have KT makes both KK and TT fairly unlikely. Basically, you're behind to one hand only and it's unfortunate he happened to hold it, but i think without a read most players would shove their chips in in that situation so I don't think anyone can really fault you there, it's just tough luck that you ran into QJ.

no harsh is quite fine im trying to learn.........thanks for the advice.....need to learn to fold those hands that are hard to let go sometimes.......esp in the begining of a big tournament.

Also the chip stacks were i was at 3000 and he had 2800, so i was left with 20 after
