Promo raise gone wrong...

Limit O8 on UB. I have [Ah][Kc][2d] in MP and raise a limper. Bunch of callers, as usual.

Flop: [5h][3d]. Not bad. Person to my right leads, and I raise. There is a call from the guy to my left, and the EP bettor calls.

Turn: . EP checks, I bet, LP calls, EP calls. I bet since I don't think they're very strong; EP is probably on a low draw, and LP could have some iffy combination hand. Since nobody shows any strength this may also set up a river bluff in case I miss everything.

River: . EP now bets again, and I raise, because I put EP on a low and LP on a not-too-good hand (maybe something weak going in both directions like A543).
Unfortunately, LP calls with A533 and EP shows AKQ2, so I get quartered...

So, is the combination preflop raise-raise when low hits on the river too obvious? In hindsight, if I had a monster for high as well I probably should flat call in order to extract from LP right? So after my raise LP knows I don't have a lock both ways?

My guess is you're giving him way too much credit.

I didn't know the guy and didn't see him do anything too silly, so I had no reason to assume he was irrational. If I call on that board then it seems obvious that I'm either fairly weak or going for the overcall...

I guess my questions are: 1) is it very obvious here that I'm promo raising? 2) Should I raise here or not? 3) (In hindsight of course) Is there a better way to play the hand (like call flop, raise turn) to weed out dubious high hands?
