Moving up to $25 FR

Postby SNGNOOB » Thu Jun 01, 2006 1:10 am

I started off playing 5NL with $50 and worked my way up to $150, then I started playing $10 FR. Im thinking about moving up to 25NL, is there much stategic difference between 10 and 25

Yes and no depending where you're playing at. Remember, just because you've got the skills for 25NL, which you may, you absolutely /have/ to have the bankroll. For me that was 300-400, but if you're still near 150 or 200 you're probably going to feel the pressure.

I play nl25, mainly because I can't afford anything else, my BR is around $400 ish, and I still feel a bit stressy if I lose a buy-in, so I often still play NL10 and $5 s&gs.

There isn't much different between NL10 and NL25, just really there is a larger swing in terms of actual $ if you get a bad beat.

I don't know how you play, but generally I just tighten up a bit from EP and stop limping in bad pos quite as much because it costs $-25c instead of .10c!

Since I started to re-build the roll I have played tons of $10 NL 6-max and $25 NL 6-max on Stars in the last month (well by tons I mean 5K hands)

there is no difference, actually if anything the $25 tables are worse.

I agree with others you should try it out and see how the comfort level is, but if you are a winning player at the $10 levels you should continue to be a winning player at the $25 levels

There is a difference IMO, at least where I play. You'll run into more decent players, and you generally have to show down a stronger hand to win a showdown at $25 than at $10 IMO. Bankroll = $500. I disagree with people telling you less is OK.

Having said that, the "decent" players are just that - decent, but not great, and if you follow the BTP advice, you'll still be able to crush them after an adjustment period. And of course there's still plenty of fish for the fleecing.

So at what level are players "good". From 5 to 10, most say not much difference. And from 10 to 25 not much difference. I heard on stars generally is harder to win than for example, party.

This came up in a convo the other day:
Random A: I got a shirt from party poker
Random B: Wear it to a poker game, people will think you suck

"Good" is relative. IMO, $200 and above is probably the cut off point. I'm also talking about Ultimate Bet - probably has the toughest $25 game on the net. Party, etc. will proabably be much easier.

well I have played on UB and stars

I HATE UB, rock garden of all rock gardens (for me)

also you have to remember my opinions are tainted somewhat as I am only playing 6-max right now.

but seriously 6-max on stars $10 and $25 NL are the same, no difference. In fact my BB/100 is a lot better at $25

$50 NL 6-max is getting tougher on Stars. More decent players plus a lot of rocks and people who think they are tricky. I notice a big difference between $25 and $50, but that isn't to say $50 isn't beatable, just different

$100 NL on stars (FR) used to be gold, but the last couple months for me it has been very rockish. I haven't played 6-max in a while on stars at this level but it was a mix between $25 and $50 6-max

some decent players, some complete donkeys

Hope that helps somewhat. I notice a real difference on Stars between $25 and $50 and a real difference between $100 and $200 in my experience there

If you multitable and you don't have your bankroll, split your tables... that's what I am doing between 100 and 200. It's not a full move up, but gets you used to it.

For the record, NL200, at least for the couple thousand hands I have, at UB, is easier than NL100 at the same site. And it's not even close. The NL100 tables run 16-20% VPIP and the NL200 tables run more like 25-30%. So for a lot of people the difference in level is going to relate to how their style reacts to the style of the other players at that level...meaning you might have to figure out how to beat a tighter game at 25 than you did at 10.

Also at 25 you're going to find the first group of guys who will kill you if you make silly min raises. It will be a small percentage, but they will be there -- they weren't there at 10. You'll need to fix that leak.
