Having AK problems again.
Last night I was playing against a guy I play with often. He's aggressive, I'm aggressive -- and we both know it about each other. He is often sitting at the $20 tables with $100 or more. He plays long sessions and usually wins. I've talked with him and he says he's planning on moving up to the $50 tables but not until he has $1500 in bankroll, and he's getting close. Anyway, this guy has something of a clue about the game, to say the least.
I get AK in ep, raise, one other guy calls, then Mr. Aggressive calls. Flop comes all undercards. I check, other guy checks, and of course Mr. A. bets out most of the pot and I have to fold. The only way to have a chance now is to check-raise which would cost way too much. Other guy folds and it's another free pot for Mr. A. who could have had any two cards.
I don't know. Maybe by showing that I can check occasionally he'll respect it more when I bet. But maybe not. He's pretty smart and we play together pretty regularly.
Put it this way. I know for a fact that when I'm first to act after I preflop raise, and I check it to him, 100% of the time he will bet 3/4 pot to full pot. In this circumstance, isn't it best to always bet the flop myself? Or should I start checking to him only when I have a good hand, and betting when I don't? Hmm....
I suppose what I really should do is make sure I sit down so I have position on him most of the time instead of vice-versa.
Thoughts, anybody? (P.S.: sorry to hijack your thread, tooters.)
