i disparage it because proper strategy and counter-strategy for the way it is currently played at stars is incredibly simple and boring. it is also potentially lucrative and high-variance, but it's still boring.
the funny thing is that if everyone played proper strategy in NLO8, it would look an awful lot like decently played PLO8... go figure.
if there were bigger games (e.g., $1000 and $2000) regularly spread, i might take more of a look into this. as it is, i think it's a dead game since the suckers can lose their money EVEN FASTER. i could be wrong about this, though.
i agree with TomG that plo8 requires more skill and is more exciting. it also has more consistent games.
